The film also explores the pioneering contributions of other Palestinian women, such as activist Samiha Khalil, who spoke out against the British and Israeli occupations of Palestine and ran for president against Yasser Arafat in 1996. ALL PROCEEDS from ticket sales for this screening will benefit the @gabusittahchildrensfund which supports urgent medical care for children in Lebanon and Palestine 🇵🇸 and is currently supporting medical teams responding to the war on Lebanon.🇱🇧 Friendly Strangers! We think our gas prices are up? They have been paying the true price. We will be screening Gaza Surf Club and two other Palestinian short films that center WATER. Water today is a privilege, when it should be a right. Palestinians were and still are coastal people, contrary to settler-colonial efforts of displacement to uninhabitable lands. Join us for this fundraiser, learn about the surf/water community in Gaza and lend these families a hand. Of Father and Sons: The Bakri Family On Screen Palestinian actor, filmmaker, and activist Mohammad Bakri worked onstage and on screen from the early 80s until his passing in December 2025. A highly regarded figure, Bakri is considered a founding father of Palestinian cinema. That designation also applies literally, since Bakri’s six children—notably Saleh, Ziad, Adam, and Mahmood—are themselves respected actors and occasional filmmakers. Known as some of the best in the region, the Bakris have appeared in many beloved films and television shows produced across the globe, often performing alongside each other. He worked so hard to make sure all of the funding for the film was Palestinian. He reached out to his brothers, his father and they helped him achieve that goal so that the Oscar’s would have no other choice but to consider OMAR a fully Palestinian production. This film is the first of its kind. A Palestinian film to actually be nominated as Palestine at @theacademy • It inspired many film investors to start putting their money where their mouth was and start investing in Palestinian film and filmmakers, no matter what comes from the box office. These stories are rich, layered & rare and we need to continue showcasing their value to the world.
