‘Wedding photography can absolutely be art.
It can be visionary, editorial, creative in ways that inspire and elevate us. But before it is art, it is memory.
Its deepest value is not how it looks on a grid, but how it holds the truth of a moment for the people who lived it, and how it invites others to feel something real.‘

Earlier this week I found myself moved to tears by a piece Annabel
@lovemydress wrote and published about weddings, specifically wedding photography.
She put into writing what so many of us have been feeling; that somewhere along the way, weddings have become more about performance than people. More about what looks impressive in an image on social media than what feels meaningful in real life.
It reminded me of a quote from
@benjhaisch that I heard years ago but still think about at every wedding I photograph:
‘The most impressive photos are not always meaningful, the most meaningful photos are not always impressive.’
These images are my quiet response -
They are not staged or styled to fit an algorithm.
They are hugs that hold whole lifetimes.
Generations gathered in one frame.
The laughter of people who will never be in that exact place again.
Because it was always and will always be about you, your people & your love.
Thank you Annabel for your honesty, for opening the conversation and for reminding us what truly matters.
