Laura & Noam’s multi-day celebration in the rolling hills of Tuscany. Some weddings can stay with you long after the last dance, and Laura and Noam’s intimate celebration with their closest 30 friends and family from all across the globe, was exactly one of those weddings. There’s something about an intimate celebration of love that slows everything down in the best way. Allowing time to notice the glances, the unexpected comedic moments over the sharing of the wine (or lack of) and the beautiful speech from John (father of the bride) that just got me. To top it all off, a classic Alfa Romeo drive at sunset was one for the books (even if Noam’s stick shift operation needs fine tuning). Super 8 wedding videography, to me, captures the ‘feeling’ of a memory 🎞️✨ There is a certain kind of magic in the grain, the light leaks and the soft flicker of Super 8 film. First introduced by Kodak in 1965, it was at the time, the new accessible way for families to capture their “home movies”. An alternative to 35mm film that was used as the standard for theatre releases. Today, we use Super 8, scanned in 4K to compliment the main footage from our digital 4K cameras. We love the way that film looks and the way it feels to shoot it. The only way I can sum this up, is by the feeling of NOSTALGIA and PROCESS. To me, nostalgia (if it can be called an emotion) is the most powerful feeling in the world. To reminisce on something that feels old, it feels earned, it was real and you physically connected with it… Just like getting your disposable camera scans back from the lab, to find that those 36 shots you took, mean so much more than the ones you took on your iPhone… Or the fact that people still buy records on vinyl, now as popular as ever, because it FEELS good. It requires effort and engagement. You must listen to the full album, the way it was intended, without the option to skip, like Spotify allows. It’s the same reason a log fire feels better than turning on the heating. They both give out heat, but the fire feels more primitive and a more meaningful experience. The facts are, film matters and it’s important to our industry because without the invention of film, the process of capturing images / moments simply would not exist as it does today.
