This piece is called Forest Floor. It’s an abstract take on (you guessed it!) a forest floor with rivulets and pools of golden water flowing through. I like the idea of wet ground where things are being recycled and renewed for their next life, especially for the Second Chances Showcase. In the chalkboard pools, I excerpted text from the pieces in the show and wrote it at all angles to give the piece a sense of gravity. I want viewers to feel drawn into the overlapping layers and feel the leaves sinking back.
For the leaves, I’m using some abstract motifs I made that never saw the light of day. I figured that would be another nice tie-in to the Second Chances theme! I originally painted the motifs in watercolor, then scanned them into my computer to vectorize and enlarge them. Maintaining and enlarging the little paint drips and brush scrapes gives the impression that they were made by a giant doodling hand.
As part of our November 2nd Showcase, we have engaged sommelier Brian Long to program a selection of beverages that evoke our theme of “Second Chances!
Check out our stories for more about the wines and beverages you can expect at our Showcase and see the incredible work Brian is doing @akbl and @classic_method
