Ismael has trained 1 session per week with me for the last two years and has packed on significant muscle (21 lbs heavier) while reducing his scoliosis at the same time. Our 90-minute initial consultation is the first step towards starting your pain-free journey and is the prerequisite to train in our facility (for both 1:1 sessions and group classes). The consultation consists of three parts:
Part 1: Standing Posture & Gait Assessment - We will first assess your standing posture and the way you walk and run via slow-motion video. We will then analyze how your movement tendencies and holding patterns may be contributing to the aches and pains you’re experiencing on a daily basis.
Part 2: Introductory Functional Patterns Workout - Afterwards, we will take you through an introductory @functionalpatterns workout. Our corrective exercises using our patented tools are safe, yet surprisingly challenging to those who have never trained FP in person with a qualified trainer. You will feel new sensations of activating key muscle groups in particular sequences that will improve your posture and gait.
Part 3: Program Recommendation - Finally, we will put together a game-plan and program that best suits your unique situation after considering factors such as YOUR specific pain points, schedule, and budget.

👨 John came to us after having a stroke, dedicated to improving his balance and building back strength and coordination that he had lost on the right side of his body.
🌀 Since humans generate movement primarily through rotation, this is an essential skill to build if you want to improve your ability to walk (and run) well. ⤵️The transverse plane is avoided in traditional training because loading it and producing force through it is difficult to teach and difficult to control.
🧐Functional Patterns practitioners aren’t afraid of “difficult” - studying what proper rotations look like and how to integrate rotation into exercise is what sets us apart.
🪞Tony @_tony.rangel and I both consistently work on rotation with John - both in standing positions and while taking steps / walking. Although it is frustrating to look at yourself in the mirror and face your dysfunctions and limitations head-on, this is the path towards solving your problems. This is the work - coming into each session ready to listen, learn, and work hard. This is what John does. Be like John. 😄
It was their first time doing @functionalpatterns AND playing pickleball for most of these class participants, but they STILL crushed it at our first Functional Patterns x Pickleball community event 💪

I love how Functional Patterns training feels in my body. I’ll be turning 36 this Saturday, and I was ready to RUN after this multiplanar work. I remember doing squats and deadlifts at a gym when I was in my early 20s, and felt stiff and awkward walking out. Learning how to integrate rotation into my training (and side bending, as you see with the @rg_bar_ work I’m doing here), has allowed my training to support my natural movement. It takes time to really dial in the fundamentals of this training system, though with practice it becomes more intuitive and enjoyable, allowing you to slow way down to fine tune as a means to speed up and get more dynamic.
