We welcome you back to Lansing, North Carolina this summer for the second Fly Around Festival. Tucked deep in the mountains of Western North Carolina, we celebrate the long heritage of traditional music, and highlight artists who stretch those traditions as far as they can, melding influences and expanding the sonic pallete of Appalachian music. Enjoy a weekend in the coolest corner of NC with us Friday July 31-August 1. Earlybird tickets for Friday and Saturday are sold separately at FlyAroundFest.com

Opening the festival for us Friday evening, is Elsa Howell and Blackbird Pie. Elsa Howell is a traditional Appalachian ballad singer, old-time guitarist, and songwriter from southwest Virginia. She is a devoted student of the traditional arts, as well as a fiery creative, bringing the haunting melodies of ancient song into the present. Elsa reimagines ballads and old-time tunes to fit her powerful voice and driving string band. @elsahowelll@blackbirdpiestrings
More local talent at the festival, our Friday night headliners Trish Fore & The Wildcats specialize in playing hard-driving, traditional, old-time instrumental music from the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina. Composed of Trish Kilby Fore on clawhammer banjo; Kevin Fore on fiddle; Kyle Dean Smith on guitar; and Chris Johson on bass, these folks have their wildcat claws sharpened and ready to play at Lansingās Fly Around Fest.
The Three-Top Serenaders are an award-winning old-time string band aimed at preserving the honest-to-goodness dance music from the hills of Western North Carolina and Southwest Virginia. Composed of Grayson McGuire (Todd, NC), Robbie Herman (Taylorsville, NC) and Devon Flaherty (Carrboro, NC), the Serenaders render numbers that touch the heart, make you laugh or put a tickle in your feet.
The group plays regularly for the Todd Community Square Dance, in addition to the historic Allegany Jubilee in Sparta, but can also be found on the streets of Boone, along the banks of the New River, at home around the fireplace or anywhere else music is called for. The trio has taken home several prizes at fiddler's conventions over the years, both as a group and individually. So put on your dancing shoes and if you ain't right, get right - it's your time for a good time!

Our stage crew met this evening at Lost Province to review our technical plans for bringing another beautiful festival to you all. Spending time at the Lost Province campus gives us a lot of inspiration for all that is possible with this incredible space.
Community driven arts space is at the heart of Fly Around. Weāre proud to be part of a team of people working to revive this building for the community and Appalachian Arts. We canāt wait to host you here for Fly Around year two. Big thanks to @lostprovincearts , @buddyhollerproductions and @haynesproductionsinc for bringing this festival to life!
Murphy Campbell has deep roots. Western North Carolina is a place her family settled four centuries ago. Born in the foothills and coming from a long lineage of mountain folk - she seeks to draw up the remnants of a forgotten modal sound. Her current project is Revenant, a collection of family ballads recorded at a historic Mitchell County church, whose Kickstarter campaign exceeded itās goal in a brisk 2 days. Sheāll perform with friend of the festival Trevor McKenzie on fiddle and Grey Hyatt on bass.
