And that's a wrap!! For some time the plan has been to close the gallery at Area 15 before the warmer months, not just for the summer, but for good. Recently the gallery was given notice of a pretty substantial increase in rent starting in April. Couple that with substantial and ignored repairs, and degrading facilities both inside and outside, and the decision was made to close the doors. Flux at Area 15 was a passion project. It was a place designed to be a platform for artists - with no brand or person in front of their creative concepts. It was unfettered by association, organization, or bureaucracy. A place where an artist's concept had a shared risk of gaining community appreciation, without the support of invisible donors and intentions. We put down a landing strip for some, gave some a show they'll never forget, partied in the street, planted seeds for others, and provided a community space for all artists to gather freely!! However, the gallery has also taken a personal, physical, financial, and emotional toll on the operators. As a passion project there are hundreds of unpaid hours, thousands in expenses, supplies and events, late night bs, and personal contributions to the bottom-line. The rewards have been amazing, the costs have been a heavy toll, and the time has come. Regardless, it's important to fill the voids in this city! Get out there, find a space, make it a place, and hang on for the ride. No town should be boring. Thank you to the community, the artists, and the fates for bringing all of us together for a brief moment in time. We'll see you all again. Where we're going, we don't need roads!!
