As of today, my Floating Cave album "Amulet of Sound" is officially out via @thegarrote . While working on this album is very much the product of a specific time and place in my mind, I'm very proud of it even though that time and place are now long gone for me. . That the production of it as a physical item was so delayed (about 3 years? can that be right?) only makes that "placed" aspect of it stand out that much more for me personally. . For me it's become not just a reminder that some things take time to grow, but also that in that time of growing what they're to become is never set or a sure thing. . As we in the background were made to be patient with this record coming around, I too hope anyone that checks it out gives it some of their time and let's it hang out a bit. . Oh man! It’s been too long! We are going back to our roots and playing a show with some absolute legends! Saturday, May 16th we will be playing up at the Hayloft on Longmont with none other than @windyandcarlofficial . This is their first shows in Colorado and we are honored to be part of this. Also on the bill are our brothers in sound @chaz.prymek and @matthewjsage . It’s gonna be emotional. New show alert and holy shit is it a big one! We will be returning to Colorado in May (May 16) for the first time in three years to open for the absolute legends @windyandcarlofficial at the Hayloft in Longmont. Hey there. Tomorrow is @bandcamp Friday, you know, where Bandcamp arbitrarily decides not take fees from sales. Last month we raised over a $1000 for MIRAC to help with their mission of helping immigrants in the Twin Cities as the government continues their relentless state-approved terror in their communities. Well, folks, we did it. You all helped us get to $1,114 in sales on New Wave Barbarism. After paying the bandcamp tax we were able to send $940 to @miracmn . The response to this has been some combination of beautiful and mind-boggling for us, and we are beyond grateful. More than anything it has reinforced for us that, as much as folks with all the power try to push the myth of “rugged individualism,” we really are part of a larger community, which now is more necessary than ever. We will continue the donations to MIRAC as they come through. For now, we’re gonna have a few small beers before getting back to work. THANK YOU!

Hello! We have something to share with you. We are releasing an EP called New Wave Barbarism today. It contains two unreleased songs recorded in 2021 @dirt_bar_studios during the sessions for our @thegarrote LP Against Our Vanishings. ALL proceeds from this release go to @miracmn . MIRAC is an all-volunteer, grassroots, multiracial, and multinational immigrant rights mass-movement organization. MIRAC fights for legalization for all, an end to immigration raids and deportations, an end to all anti-immigrant laws, and full equality in all areas of life. The four of us in New Standards Men believe that the terrorizing of our immigrant communities is part of a larger push to further marginalize and terrorize those who don’t conform within a narrow ideal of “America.” This our attempt, however small, to help in any way possible. If we may have a moment of your attention, we figure here at the pre-dawn of this despicable year is as good a time as any to put together a post about the lineup of our band. Back in November of 2024, we became a three-piece when long-time drummer, Eric Diercks, exited the band. As we discussed where this put us as a band, it began to feel like an exciting moment to find ourselves in, and we came to view it as not just a sudden change in our lineup but also like an opportunity for us to deeply discuss our overall motivations and what each of us truly get out of working on this kind of music/sound. Eventually, we did a couple shows that were largely improvised, and though we really enjoyed those sets, privately we found ourselves spending our time going back to material that we’d worked on in the recent past that we still very much enjoyed playing together. We then decided on honing that material to make it usable both in future collaborations with other musicians and when performing with just the three of us. Anyone that has seen us lately has heard versions of this work and seen that we’ve added some other instrumentation to our setup in order to perform it. This material is also purposefully a bit less strictly written, and leans more into us actively feeling out transitions, letting things breathe, and seeing how it all goes. Which seems like it’s largely the point of this post. For the time being, Aseethe will be the three of us: Brian Barr, Noah Koester, Drew Bissell. We will also lean quite a bit more noticeably into The Drone. There are collaborations that we’ve got material written for, and studio-time booked for, as well as other collaborations we are discussing privately. Live photo by @carly_hux
