Mpls, MN - Join the MN Anti War Committee and American Muslims For Palestine on Sunday, May 17th at 2pm at Chute Square, 28 University Ave SE, MPLS to commemorate the 78th anniversary of Al-Nahkba. Al-Nahkba, meaning "The Catastrophe", is a solemn day of remembrance for Palestine. It's the day of the year where we remember the 15,000+ Palestinians who were murdered by the Israeli occupation in 1948, the year of the establishment of the Zionist state of Israel. Not only were 15,000 people killed during the Nahkba, almost exclusively women, children and civilians, but over 750,000 Palestinians were ethically cleansed from their homes and homeland, creating the largest ethnic diaspora in existence to this day. After 2 and a half years of the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and the continued annexation of Palestinian land in the West Bank, we know that the Nahkba was not a singular event but the ongoing project of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Palestine for the past 78 years, the Nahkba was only the beginning but it never ended. Join us as we say "Enough is Enough! End the siege on Gaza, end the genocide, stop the annexation of land in the West Bank, end the Nahkba once and for all and let Palestine live". Come stand with the Palestine solidarity community as we commemorate the lives, land and homes stolen by the Israeli occupation of Palestine. End US aid to Israel Right to resist and right to return End the blockade of Gaza MN Divest from Genocide Free Salah Sarsour and all political prisoners

St. Paul, MN – On May 9, the day before Mother’s Day, 100 Minnesotans, from all generations, gathered at the Minnesota State Capitol with blue bunny hats in remembrance of Liam Conejo Ramos and the 4030 immigrants who were kidnapped during Operation Metro Surge. Two months on from the drawdown of Operation Metro Surge, people came out to the Capitol to demonstrate their determination to fight back against the continuing attacks on immigrant communities. Protesters brought their own blue bunny hats or grabbed one made by the Conejo Rally organizers. The crowd of blue bunny hats made for an emotional visual as various immigrant rights advocates spoke to the crowd. The event, dubbed the “Conejo Rally,” was co-organized by the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC) and Families Against Military Madness (FAMM). The rally honored five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos, who in January was kidnapped by ICE agents along with his father outside their home in Columbia Heights, Minnesota. The two were then sent to the notoriously cruel Dilley detention center in Texas, where Liam became depressed and ill. As images of the scared preschooler in his blue bunny hat stoked global outrage, a judge ordered ICE to release the pair, and they returned home on February 1; but the nightmare is not over, for them and many other immigrant families. The federal government is still trying to deport Liam and his family and seems determined to retaliate against them for the attention their case has received. The Department of Justice successfully moved to end the family’s asylum claims, and now it has appealed the release of Liam and his father. Nonetheless, Liam and his family themselves attended the Conejo Rally, bravely keeping their story in the public eye. ...Read more on fightbacknews.org Photo Credit: Montana Hirsch

Yesterday @miracmn and @wamm_mn held the Conejo Rally at the State Capital. This was calling for a Sanctuary State in Minnesota, NOW. It was also to call attention upon the 4,000 lives like Liam’s Ramos that were impacted by Operation Metro Surge. MIRAC made blue bunny hats for participants to wear at the rally. These were to be a reminder for the victims of ICE’s actions, and that no one is illegal. Liam, his father Adrian Conejo Arias, and the rest of his family also made it to the rally at the capital with Arias also briefly speaking to the crowd.

Our weekly press conferences are resuming. It has now been nearly a month and several press conferences since we met with Commissioner Paul Schnell to demand he address serious safety concerns at Faribault Correctional Facility. Yet we still have not received a response nor has any action been taken to address these urgent safety concerns. Please show up and stand with us this Thursday. We mean business and we will continue demanding transparency and action until our demands are met.

On May 1st community members showed up for the International Workers Day March. This was led by MIRAC, who were also celebrating 20 years of support and struggle that the organization has been through. This was one of many events that was held in Minnesota. Thousands of people gathered at Lake St and Chicago and marched to Target. International Workers Day, or May Day calls for worker’s rights and immigrant protections.
