The Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold tens of millions of albums and taken home multiple Grammy Awards. Now in his 60s, more than four decades after that band formed, Flea is releasing his first solo album. ‘Honora’ is a jazz album that connects back to his childhood. The legendary bassist spoke with NPR’s Terry Gross about some of his wild antics, his “blood bond” with his band, and finding beauty in the world. Listen on the Fresh Air podcast, link in bio. Since the many years past when i first marveled at the wild sounds of Art Tatum, i loved this song, Willow Weep For Me. Here’s my version from Honora. @joshuaajohn rocking the moog, then the whole track was treated by John Frusciante. Visualizer by @nespy5euro

This particular question has come up regularly on The Questlove Show, but Flea gives a truly memorable answer. What’s your routine? Full episode video and audio in the bio link; Honora out now.

James Gadson the deepest groove drummer has left us. His legacy will live on through the zillion joyful dances humans will do to his beats, to heal and feel free. I am lucky enough to have played with him on many occasions and to have been his friend. He was a beautiful man and I will always treasure the times we hung out together, performing, recording, life talking. God bless the great James Gadson.
