Up graded the drive train with some beautiful @paulcomponent cranks and @garbaruk_components chainring, cassette, pulleys and derailleur cage. I don’t know if it’s because they’re all shinny and new but damn it shifts great! The 160mm crank arms feel better out of the saddle as well. They feel like they are at an efficient spot at the bottom of the pedal stroke. It’s not so noticeable when I’m sitting and spinning though. I got to hand deliver this one to a good friend who lives on the Big Island. Way back in the early days he ordered Fitz #3 when I started out building in Hilo, HI. This is a 700c light touring rig with room for 55mm tires, provisions for multiple racks, water bottles and dynamo wiring guides up the fork. The color is called Penny Vein and it’s a hammer tone but the texture is smoother, very unique.
I don’t know if you’ve been following the price of silver these days but as of today it’s up around $115/ oz. What does that mean for bikes? Well my lugged bikes require silver, 56% and as of today it costs on average around $375 for 5 Troy ounces. That’s 3 times as much as I paid for it last summer. There’s just no way around this cost than to increase the price of my lugged frames and stainless fillet brazed racks. I usually make a couple lugged frames a year and 6-8 racks. Hopefully I won’t see a decrease in these areas but if I do, I’ll know why. I don’t imagine I will be the only builder reconfiguring his pricing.
It’s been a loooong minute since I’ve built a travel frame and my first with the @ritcheylogic system, which in my estimation is the way to go. Why, because it won’t change the ride quality that myself and the custom spent time trying to dial with diameter and butting profiles of the tubing. Simple genius. To keep the package smaller he opted for 26” wheels, it also sports some choice parts from @whiteind and custom powder coated front rack.
