this is the latest VFX work Finnsoft has been up to ahead of some big game-related announcements this year. Indulge yourself in the new vid for @officialfables new song Eyes Closed. You owe it to yourself. Link in bio
Fables returns with her third single, âEyes Closedâ, just in time for Valentineâs Day. In Baileyâs words, âEyes Closedâ explores the distance between expectations and reality, and the emotional weight of situations we never saw coming. âItâs the sting of ripping off a band-aid after the wound has started to itch,â she explains.
âEyes Closed is about naming the uncomfortable gap between what you hoped something could be and what it actually was. I wanted the song to feel gentle and pretty on the surface, almost reassuring, while holding something heavier underneath, that quiet dread that comes from knowing, deep down, that something isnât right. Physically I couldnât tell you where I was when I wrote Eyes Closed, but I know emotionally it was dark. I just visualised the partnership that I wanted versus the one that had. The arguments I never wanted to have let alone lose and then, I just wrote the song.
When she sings, âI would have loved you with my eyes closed,â Bailey is describing the experience of knowing something is wrong but choosing not to look too closely, hoping to endure the hesitation rather than confront it. Inevitably, though, moving blindly through life is never enough.
ââI would have loved you with my eyes closedââ was my way of unpacking the memories of all of the times that were good and blissful, appreciating that they were almost enough to keep me in the relationship. It would have been easy, as long as I never looked at what was happening in front of me. But the song ultimately acknowledges that moving through something blindly comes at a cost.â
An accompanying NZ On Air supported music video sees Bailey take on art direction duties, working with a small, nimble team including Finn Johansson, Ali Burns (director of photography), Willa OâNeill Cameron (first assistant director), Harriet Ellis (best boy), and India Wray Murane (make-up).
Starring Bailey and Joel Rindelaub, the âEyes Closedâ video was shot between Paradise Ice Skating and Cocoâs Cantina in TÄmaki Makaurau. âI wanted to lean into a more exaggerated editorial look and feel,â Bailey says, âlike old-money alpine Gucci chic meets whimsical but quietly fuming Kate Bush.â
Finnsoft rides again!!! Here are some shots of VFX work I did for @officialfables video for 'Sundown'.
We had Shazza in a green screen suit, cos she was gonna be a 'glowing being'. Didn't end up being green enough with the lighting we chose, so I roto'd her.
The real fun of making a glowing person is thinking of all the situations that might be fun or funky for that person to glow in - are they a nighttime reading light? Are they a shadow puppet torch? Would sleeping next to them be a nightmare if you forgot your eye mask?
This helps to sell the glowingness, especially if you tape some real life lights to your glowy actor.
I used some kind of layered noise in UE5 to make the glow pattern. If you look closely it's like magma from heaven.
PS all you gamers sit tight I'm cooking something up for ya
You'll never believe this - I got Youtubered! I Dream of Indie Games just did a video on my game for @adam_hattaway Ain't No Surprise! The cooked af one where you are a tiny man in a sphere and you go inside Adam and shoot spiders - and they called it a HIDDEN GEM
I've put it back on sale so it's like a dollar right now which is honestly the right price for it. Check it out before it gets even more famous he he
And the vids keep coming! This one I whipped up some shots for for for new @flyingnun signees @soft_bait , to add that extra CGI oomph to an already transcendent @ryanfielding_ creation. Check out the full thing on Youtube and come at me if you want your next music video to have the Finnsoft touch. I'd always wanted to try something in the ps1 style! Also enjoy a lil bit of BTS wot wot

Great job @teamsportsteam , stay tuned for a shot breakdown x
OK I can't show you what this video shoot was for in any way shape or form BUT I can tell ya that I had my first job as VFX Supervisor for a music video, directed by @teamsportsteam ! More to come but after watching 86 seasons of VFX Artists React on Youtube I knew EXACTLY how I wanted those green screened objects placed in the shot I tells ya. Special props to director @pannybel for believing in me and putting up with my loud VFX direction during takes (I was very excited)

In less than 12 hours the world will be graced with the music video for HUMAN MEGAZORD, the beautiful track that inspired the videogame DANKENSTONED'S BONGSTER'S GRAM SMOKER'S STANKULA. To make the vid I programmed a special in game cine-cam which had depth of field controls, resulting in the blurry focus that you can see in some of these screenshots. Put simply a Human Megazord is a writhing mass of human flesh, in the shape of a cube in this case.
Continuing our media\press spree, Finnsoft has a dedicated page in the latest NZ Marketing magazine. I tell ya, I was as surprised as you to be asked to be interviewed, but they went to great pains to explain to me that some of the things I do are, in fact, marketing! Thanks Zahra and @nzmarketingmag keep on keeping it real đ
