Excited to be presenting a public lecture this Tuesday 28th April 6.30pm at the Centre for Brooklyn History @brooklynhistory @bklynlibrary The talk will focus on archival research pertinent to the first successful introduction of house sparrows into the Americas via Brooklyn in 1856-57 through a joint partnership by Brooklyn Institute for Arts & Sciences (now Brooklyn Museum) @brooklynmuseum and Green-Wood Cemetery @historicgreenwood . I will then focus on how I negotiate the critical narration of species histories through studio methodologies and recent exhibitions. The talk will wrap-up in conversation with artist and dear colleague Umber Majeed @u_mbr0 Everyone welcome! Please rsvp @brooklynhistory directly @creative.australia @gallerysallydancuthbert @unswartanddesign @unswada @parsonsschoolofdesign @parsonsfinearts

Gorriones y Eucaliptos Rosados (mar)(Pink Sparrows and Eucalypts (sea)) is still showing at Museo MAR (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Buenos Aires) as part of BIENALSUR 2025, the 5th Biennale of International Art of the Global South, Argentina. This project is a continuation of my ongoing research into the introduction of sparrows into the Americas and Australia in the nineteenth century, and more broadly, how thinking critically with/through/as introduced species reveals counter-anthropocentric and decolonial possibilities for historical storytelling. This work focuses on the mutual introduction of sparrows and eucalyptus into Latin America via Buenos Aires, its relationship to constructing notions of 'terra nullius' present in both Argentina and Australia, and the literary memory of both countries in relation this construct. The work also negotiates my own south<>south relationship in the world, as an Argentinean-Australian negotiating these histories simultaneously. The work spaned the entire entrance hall and mezannine of Museo MAR, 80-metres in length and 15-metres in height, and was the first time I presented work in Latin America, coincidentally and magically in the city where I grew up. The project could not have happened without the support of family @georgemercedesdocampo @vinodan87 And studio assistance from @bree_dimattina @susanr_art @roughpoppy @unregistered_master_builder Thankyou to the vision of curator and now dear friend Clarisa Appendino @clarisaappendino artistic director Diana Wechsler @wechslerd and support from @marmuseo @bienalsurarte @unswartanddesign @unswada and @creative.australia @gallerysallydancuthbert .
