Faversham Makers are revving up for December and on Saturday 29th we’ll be joining in the revelry as Faversham switches on its Christmas lights! Our Sunday Spotlight is on @kateclarkestudio who makes the wonderfully joyful journals, colourful brooches, compact mirrors and utterly beautiful framed prints for your wall, all available @favershammakers in the popup @onegatefield . We are open Thursday to Sunday and if you fancy popping in, we promise you a gorgeous jolt of uplifting colour and pleasing composition with Kate’s screen printed works, composed of different abstracted elements, and absolutely not a scrap of her precious printed linen pieces wasted. @favershammakers has to admit to owning and loving two of her beautiful journals, and still having an eye on the new ones on the table in the shop! We are all stationery addicts at this time of year aren’t we 😉 We asked Kate to share a little about her process and show us inside her very stylish studio space: ‘Kate Clarke is a graphic designer and printmaker with a passion for colour and pattern. Her designs are inspired by aerial photography, drone shots and maps. They begin as sketches of anything from a row of treetops, skylights on buildings to plough lines on a field. She uses an experimental screen printing process which involves building up layers of colour, shape and pattern to create unique, abstract compositions. She really enjoys this element of ‘play’ in her work. Kate is fascinated by the way colours interact with one another. It’s tonight! Please come and join the Faversham Makers collective at the popup at Gatefield Lane for late night shopping 5-8pm. We’ve joined up with Grain and Hearth next door and they will be selling cocktails, wine and small plates. Here at One Gatefield you can bring your drink in and take a look at our hand-made skincare, small-batch soap, homeware, artwork and naturally-dyed textiles. It’s all made locally by a small group of creative friends who would love you to come and take a look. Pop in to the popup to top up your @floragy_skincare products. Louisa makes luxurious, plant-based creams, cleansers, serums, oils, bath salts and beautiful candles which are gorgeously scented and uplifting. We are also thrilled to have exceptional ceramics by @rosabond for you to look at. Her gorgeous flower bricks are the perfect base for an Autumnal display of stems, flowers or foliage. We are so proud to have beautiful ceramics by @rosabond in the @favershammakers pop up @onegatefield from Sunday 2 November. Rosa’s flower bricks are extraordinary small artworks, carefully designed to display and enhance even the simplest of stems or flowers, and simply gorgeous objects on their own. She makes, finishes and fires her work locally here in Faversham. What could be more perfect for a special present for yourself or someone you love (a lot!) Faversham Makers would find it hard to give one away once it was safely in their clutches. We asked Rosa to show us a little of her process and explain how she makes her beautiful flower bricks. You can see here how much skill goes into designing the forms and choosing from a number of tests to get exactly the right surface for the piece. ‘Rosa makes playful, functional vessels for plants and flowers. Altering thrown forms and combining techniques her current work is a modern interpretation of a traditional flower brick.
