Current read: Winter of My Spring Such a raw meditation on the meaning of freedom, autonomy, and survival in a reality where choice is stripped away by the harshest conditions. Grateful to have stories like these being told about the unimaginable plight of young girls in Somalia 🇸🇴 and beyond. This is a must-read novel that transports you into a world you want to both endure and escape in equal measures ✨ I can’t recommend it enough!! #winterofmyspringreviewtour #winterpopup #emotionalreads #currentlyreading #muslimauthors

Three things I’m celebrating about myself this Women’s History month: 1. I’m a really good daughter. 2. My ability to grow, even when it’s uncomfortable. 3. Showing up as my most honest self, even when it’s hard. I had the honor to capture @fatimaldiallo and share her story. A woman of integrity, grace and compassion. Tell me more about being Muslim, community connection and wisdom on your beliefs. Being Muslim has had a significant impact on who I am today. I grew up in a pretty fundamental household, more orthodox I would say. My dad was an imam and a leader in the community, so I think a lot of my relationship with Islam was shaped by that, and even as a kid reading the Quran with my dad, learning how to pray, and learning the practices of Islam actioned in life. It’s so intergral to who I am, but as a result so are the restrictions and the fear of doing anything wrong that comes with growing up in a really strict household. Growing up with someone who was really strict about the way they practice, their faith becomes a large part of how I cultivated my relationship with Islam, and it wasn’t until I left for college that I felt like I started making the choice for myself. It became this is something I’m choosing to do for me. Not because I’m at home and my mom or dad is telling me to practice my faith.
