 A few months ago, Emil and I began speaking about the acoustics of intimacy—what it holds, what it reveals. She, as a trans-femme artist and s-x worker; myself, as a queer sound artist. We met somewhere in between our experiences, our histories, and our shared reality of living as HIV-undetectable. From there, something slowly unfolded:
what if intimacy could be listened to in layers? Rituals of preparation.
Conversations with lovers.
Negotiations with clients.
And everything that follows…whispers…frictions…moans…
the weight of footsteps approaching, the quiet anticipation at the threshold of a glory hole.
 I spent countless hours listening, editing, sitting with over six hours of consensual recordings.

 From the lube pump to the sound of fabric falling, from half-spoken sentences to silences stretched across a wall, each detail began to carry its own charge, its own language. I’m honoured to be entrusted with these recordings, shaping them into a requiem where trans bodies are celebrated, loved, desired, and free.
At times, I found myself holding space for the men who love trans bodies, whose voices are so often unheard or reduced to silence. Installed across four separate toilets, the work unfolds through four simultaneous soundscapes, echoing across one another.

Not one story, but many…
appearing… dissolving… re-emerging… A tarot reading.
“What if my friends knew this part of my sex life?”
Emil’s first experience with racism. A curiosity around shibari.
Moments of gathering within a chosen queer family.
Fragments of s-x and intimacy, drifting into something melodic… something ambient. You are invited into a space of proximity.
But how long before listening begins to feel like intrusion?
 Somewhere between exposure and concealment, the work lingers—
where listening is no longer passive, but participatory.
Where intimacy takes form in the act itself.

Joshua Serafin presents Relics: An Eye Once Blind with Görkem Şen and Pierre Bayet [6.05, 8.05] Philippines-born, Brussels-based Joshua Serafin is a multidisciplinary artist working across dance, performance, visual arts, and choreography. Their practice explores themes of migration, ancestry, and queer politics through a language that merges ritual, movement, and speculative cosmologies. After participating in the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Adriano Pedrosa, Joshua returns to Venice for the 2026 edition of We Travel To Know Our Own Geography. Joined by musicians Görkem Şen and Pierre Bayet, they will present ‘Relics: An Eye Once Blind’ for the first time in Venice, as the first chapter of Lost Ancestors, an evolving body of work through which Serafin investigates the histories and traumas embedded in their family lineage. We Travel To Know Our Own Geography, curated by Kuboraum, is hosted within the public program of the exhibition ‘One Touch of Nature Makes the Whole World Kin’ curated by School for Curatorial Studies Venice. ‘Relics: An Eye Once Blind’ will be performed live on May 6th and 8th. Soundscape for @babydilfx in Amsterdam 🌷 “One Night Only : Suckatorium edit” (30min) displayed at @nolimitsartcastle For @warmoesbiennale @buttmagazine @janhoekjoh “One Night Only” includes various recordings Emil made over the past months. The Suckatorium Edition focuses on the specific acoustics the glory hole offers. Through this sound work, listeners are invited to kneel and peek through the hole. You are invited into a form of sonic voyeurism, diving into an erotic ASMR experience in which multiple short stories merge into one. The work explores themes of control, release, and pleasure. The soundscape is formed entirely from Emil’s recordings, carried, filtered, and transformed through Pierre’s listening. Drawn from Emil’s sonic life as a trans s** worker in so-called Australia, voices slip into texture. Intimacy drifts toward abstraction. Sound does not explain. It lingers, touches, and withdraws. Created by two HIV-undetectable artists, the work holds the politics of intimacy, care, and impermanence close. The installation with run until May 31st in Amsterdam’s red light district.
