Saadane Afif. Five Preludes Live 28.05.

So excited to have sung on the upcoming @horselords album together with Nina Guo (@facesound )! The new album is called “Demand to Be Taken to Heaven Alive!” You can listen to the first couple of tracks, “Eureka 378-B” and “Brain of the Firm,” which feature me and Nina, and you can watch an accompanying video by Scott Kiernan (@zenithfoundation ). The tracks also feature trombonist Weston Olencki (@wolencki ), and bass clarinetist Madison Greenstone (@mads_green_stone ). I especially love how this project brought together my two vocal practices of shape note singing and just intonation. So fun! The album will be released on June 12th on RVNG Intl. @rvngintl , and you can get your pre-order now!

Moonhorn is up and running @hotelmariakapel , and here are some installation images during the day. 🌓🌗 . My installation Moonhorn takes as its starting point the archeological artefact Mondorn, or moonhorn in English. Moonhorns are a mystery in archaeology. They are undefinable objects, dating back around 1300–600 BCE, and have been found throughout the North Alpine region. More than seven hundred have been found in Switzerland alone - too many to discard their existence as a mere coincidence. Somehow, we have lost the ability to read these objects, leaving them hanging mid-air, restless, unresolved, pending. They leave us wondering what might be, could be, pondering the possibilities embraced by uncertainty.  . The audio for the installation was made in collaboration with @facesound and the CAMRAS team at the radio telescope Dwingeloo. . The exhibition is open Thursday - Saturday, 1pm - 5pm, until December 13th 2025 . Photos by @bartimaeus.eu 🌙 . projects like this aren’t possible without financial support and I am grateful to have received funding from @stroom_den_haag @cultuurfonds @stichtingstokroos #stichtingvanachterberghdomhof #werktuigppo - thank you! . ceramics were realised @ekwc_oisterwijk . #moonhorn #mondhorn #hoorn #ropes #ceramics #moon #archeologyart

EXPERIMENTAL SINGING WORKSHOP TO CO-CREATE A SOUNDSCAPE WITH THE MOON 🌕 . Super chuffed about our singing workshop @hotelmariakapel to work collectively on a soundscape for my installation Moonhorn. We worked together on vocally activating and interpreting the shapes, forms, distances and spaces in and around the sculputes with three fantastic local teens. The recordings we made will now partially be sent to the moon with the radio technology moonbouncing. To make this happen we teamed up with the Radio Telescope Dwingeloo and the amazing Jan van Muijlwijk - we cannot wait to hear what our vocal journey to the moon will return 🌖 . Enormous thank you to our fantastic singers Elian, Amber and Marente! . @hotelmariakapel ceramics realised @ekwc_oisterwijk . . . . @stroom_den_haag @cultuurfonds @stichtingstokroos #stichtingvanachterberghdomhof #werktuigppo #moonhorn #mondhorn #hoorn #ropes #ceramics #moon #moonbounces

MOONBOUNCING LIVE EVENT - we sent our voices to the moon and back! . Moonbouncing is a radio communications technique that uses the Moon to reflect radio waves back to earth, also known as Earth-Moon-Earth (EME). This techniques is today only used by radio enthusiasts connecting to each other via the Moon. As part of my project all around Moonhorns (an ancient ceramic artefact whose purpose nobody knows), I was eager to invite the moon more actively and literally into the project - which we do with Moonbouncing! . This is the very first time I have experienced live Moonbouncing with the amazing help of the Jan van Muijlwijk, a radio amateur who is part of the of the team that restored and up keeps the Radio Telescope at Dwingeloo. The Radio Telescope Dwingeloo is the largest and oldest radio telescope in the Netherlands and I am super delighted to be collaborating with them on this very special project! . Here is me and @facesound very excited about sending our voices to the moon! .
