Opening of the Dagmar Bosma’s exhibition at Hotel Maria Kapel in Hoorn.

Random “work in progress” photos in preparation for Dagmar Bosma’s installation at Hotel Maria Kapel. The installation in the chapel unfolds around a group of original 17th-century linen presses, which played a central role in the premodern Dutch household. The Dutch Republic had its own linen industry, and linen was an important export product that was traded for enslaved people. In his installation, Dagmar dyes linen damask, also known as ‘the white gold’, with rust, a reference to colonial violence and to the chapel’s former function as an Artillery House. Opening: = May 1st 2026 = 16:00–19:00 (free entry) Hotel Maria Kapel Korte Achterstraat 2a 1621 GA Hoorn

Meet & Greet with Dagmar Bosma! Textile is the primary material in Dagmar’s artistic practice, and dyeing with rust is a technique they use continuously. During the residency, he will explore new and less familiar techniques, such as operating the linen press, a 17th century household staple. The opening of ‘Bleekveld’ is on May 1st 16.00-19.00. Be welcome! Photos by @bartimaeus.eu #hoorn #hotelmariakapel #linnen #artistinresidence

While in Salzburg I visited the exhibition of “Die Verlorene Generation / The Lost Generation”, which consists of works created by artists who needed to flee Austria and Germany during the years of National Socialist terror. Many works and artists were completely unknown until recently, due to their eradication from the collective history in second quarter of the 20th century and are only now being rediscovered, catalogued and brought back into memory. Some works were used as examples of “Entartete Kunst / Degenerate Art” by the Nazi authorities , which including many works of internationally renowned artists, removed from state-owned museums and banned in Nazi Germany on the grounds that such art was an “insult to German feeling”, un-German, Freemasonic, Jewish, or Communist in nature. The collection and exhibition are a private initiative started by Prof. Dr. Heinz R. Böhme, physician and Holocaust witness, and now part of a non-profit museum to raise awareness for the forgotten artists from this troubled period of European history. Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00 to 17:00. Closed on public holidays Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse 12 / 1st floor 5020 Salzburg, Austria © Museum Kunst der Verlorenen Generation Salzburg #connections #community #collectivememory #salzburg #verlorenengeneration

Some moments from the Meet and Greet with Leonie Brandner, the most recent resident artist who will be exhibiting at Hotel Maria Kapel in the next weeks. Also included, a number of “work in progress” photos. Moonhorns (translated from German ‘Mondhorn’ ) are late bronze age ceramic objects found particularly in Switzerland. They look like crescent moons or bull horns, hence their German name - Mondhorn. Moonhorns are a mystery in archaeology. Virtually nothing is known about them, except their rough age and location in which they must have held some relevance and purpose. Some archaeologists speculate that moonhorns could be altar objects, neck supports, fire blocks or perhaps early instruments for recognising star constellations. Some connect them to fertility rituals, believing they could have held importance for women in particular. Many speculations exist, but nobody actually knows what the moonhorns were used for or the context in which they once existed. On Saturday, August 16th, Hotel Maria Kapel organised a commemoration activity centred around the decolonial Indonesia–Netherlands commemoration and celebration, with special attention given to the Indonesian, Moluccan, Indo-African, Papuan, Javanese-Surinamese, Chinese-Indonesian (Peranakan Chinese) and Indo-European communities. The afternoon created space for reflection and reconnection within these communities by collectively creating a shared timeline. The history between Indonesia and the Netherlands has many sides. Everyone who has been connected to this colonial history in some way sees it through their own lens. Because this history is so layered, it is all the more important to create a moment where all perspectives can coexist. With this event, we aim to strengthen connections within and between the different communities and to make shared stories visible by opening up space for dialogue and recognition.
