REPRESSED Jessika Kenney & Eyvind Kang “The face of the earth” LP (SOMA011).
Finally we were able to repress this absolute masterpiece by two of the most singular artists I have ever had the pleasure to connect with. Originally released in 2012. “Work of delicate beauty, as pristine as the surface of a lake at dawn on a summer’s morning.” — @thequietus

Eyvind Kang’s music moves like water: luminous, devotional, alive in motion. From collaborations with Laurie Anderson, Bill Frisell, Sun City Girls, and Sunn O))) to his enduring partnership with Jessika Kenney, he’s shaped a language where sound becomes ritual, dissolving the line between composition and invocation.
Some may not know that Kang’s roots reach wide and deep. The distinct language he developed through his 30-year study of Indian classical music with N. Rajam comes into focus with Sun City Girls; his seminal Binah (Live Low to the Earth) and his earliest noise record The Sweetest of Sickness reveal the same restless curiosity that led to Alastor: Book of Angels for John Zorn’s Tzadik label, and beyond.
A through-line of this recorded output is a 30-year creative friendship with producer and co-runner of Kou Records Randall Dunn. From their earliest sessions like Live Low to the Earth, to Monoliths & Dimensions, and now Riparian, their dialogue has evolved into a shared language of sound, space, and intuition.
His Kou Records release Riparian marks both his first-ever solo instrumental album and a culmination of this three-decade exchange. It also begins a new chapter in Kang’s relationship with Kou: a continuation of deep listening, care, and long-form collaboration.
Preorders for Riparian are available now on Bandcamp or thru local distribution on @secretlydistribution via @ideologicorgan . Out and shipping this week on October 31.

So honored and excited to share the music video for Eyvind Kang’s Riparian, out today.
From 2016–2021, I lived between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges in Chinatown. Every morning I’d run along “Lavender Lane,” the passage under the FDR where the local Chinese community gathered for tai chi. Over time, I learned the Yang form myself and practiced there too.
Those memories became the inspiration for this video, featuring Mary, Miss Ming, and Sunny from the NY Yang Sheng Tai Chi Association, filmed this summer under the FDR Bridge. Directed by @randallbdunn and filmed/edited by @arjanmiranda the video reimagines classic ’80s and ‘90s New York public-access television through a psychedelic lens — surreal, luminous, and unmistakably local.
Huge thanks to Amy Chin at @thinkchinatown and to Margaret Yuen for helping bring this incredible moment to life together.

Kou Records announces Riparian by Eyvind Kang — out October 31, 2025. Pre-orders are now open on Bandcamp. “Riparian A” available on select streaming services.
After more than 30 years of recorded output, Riparian stands as Kang’s first solo instrumental album. Centered on the viola d’amore, it is an intimate and meditative work that extends his lifelong exploration of sound, improvisation, and ecological listening. Across two longform pieces, Kang unfolds melodies within self-devised microtonal modes, tracing ancient echoes through a contemporary ear. Produced by Randall Dunn, the album captures the unique resonance of the viola d’amore with warmth and clarity, inviting the listener into a space where sound, time, and image flow freely.
The album features artwork by artist and architect Maura Chen and a portrait by Randy Ortiz.
Two special vinyl editions accompany the release: 🟠 Kou Orange Collector’s Edition — clear orange vinyl with obi strip ✨ Artist Edition — pressed on clear “smoke” vinyl and packaged with a photo booklet featuring Kang’s own photographic response to Riparian’s themes. Strictly limited to 150 copies.
For non BC orders, listeners worldwide can ask their local record shop to order Riparian through @secretlydistribution via @ideologicorgan
