🎬 [5/24, 5-6pm, see below for location] Think!Chinatown will be heading to Toronto to bring a selection of our storytelling projects! These short films tease out complex stories of immigration journeys, the birth of the Asian American movement, and the everyday lives of Chinatown community members. Following the screening, Executive Director of Think!Chinatown, Yin Kong, will discuss how storytelling is an essential part of T!C’s practice in their creative placekeeping work. Conversation will be moderated by Amy Wang of Long Time No See. 🔗 Link in bio to RSVP. Walk-ins are welcome, with priority to those who have RSVP’d. 📍 Bachir/Yerex Presentation Space, The Commons (Suite 440), 401 Richmond St. West, Toronto, ON, M5V 3A8 This event is presented by Think!Chinatown in partnership with Long Time No See, and sponsored by Reel Asian. Think!Chinatown @thinkchinatown is a creative placekeeping non-profit here to create intergenerational spaces of art, joy, belonging and connection in Manhattan’s Chinatown. At the intersection of arts, storytelling and neighborhood engagement, T!C works to grow community agency in our own neighborhood’s built environment as well as the narrative of our own stories. Long Time No See's @ltnschinatown collective work seeks to connect the Chinatown community across generations, remind us all that our current struggle is not a new one, and we have much to learn from one another. Through communal art creation, we hold space for us all to gather and share our stories – of family, of hardship, of resilience and our hopes for the future. Reel Asian @reelasian is a not-for-profit charitable cultural organization that advocates for Asian representation through media arts. As Canada’s largest pan-Asian film festival, Reel Asian® provides a public forum for Asian and Asian diasporic artists and their work, and fuels the growing appreciation for diverse media in Canada. 📸: Sophia Deng @sophiaydeng , Lilly Lam @lillikins , Bob Hsiang @bobhsiang517

T!C is proud to be a grantee of @NYCulture ’s FY2026 Cultural Development Fund (CDF)! Thanks to the continued support of the Dept of Cultural Affairs we’ve been able to provide and free or low-cost arts programming to the Chinatown community and beyond. This investment in our work helps us bring accessible, affordable cultural programs to our community. Our CDF grant supports our Chinatown Arts Festival, performances at the Chinatown Night Market and at the Think!Chinatown studio space. Art and culture are the heart and soul of New York, and we’re proud to be among the nearly 1,200 groups receiving city support this year thanks to the partnership between the NYC Mayor’s Office and the City Council. Here’s a look back at the wide range of cultural programs T!C has been able to present in the last year with the support of the Dept. Cultural Affairs. Looking forward to another year of arts in Chinatown! #NYCulture #ThinkChinatown

It was a busy April with plenty of programming in our studio. We had to pack it all in before we started our last phase of renovation. Our studio will be dark for the next couple of weeks, but we're so excited for our final evolution in our space. Stay tuned for our upcoming announcements. For now, here's a look back on our many April events: 🔥It was a special time to connect with the dead, crafting and learning about Joss Paper offerings for Qingming Festival w/ @tiandiuniversalmarket . We used our Fortune Offering Vessel, an Everyday Chinatown item in our storytelling exhibit, to burn joss paper offerings for our ancestors. 🌷We keep learning so much about Chinese herbs, acupressure, and TCM-based wellness at our seasonal series with @kamwoherbs . This session, we also learned how to use the medicine pot, another Everyday Chinatown item featured in our storytelling exhibit. 📣 With @civicnewscompass , we learned how to talk to relatives about questionable Chinese language news media articles from WeChat and more. 🍢 It was a sold-out night market themed party for @edlinforpresident for Ed Lin’s Book Launch: The Dead Can’t Make a Living with @yuandmebooks Can't get enough of our Think!Chinatown events? We're celebrating May's #APAHM by offering a special dumpling workshop! 🔗 Link in bio. ✉️ To stay in the loop for our latest events, sign up for our newsletter at thinkchinatown.org/contact #thinkchinatown #chinatown

📣 Open Call: Open Until April 23! Think!Chinatown is looking for a printmaking artist! Open to any kind of printmaking, such as linocut, silkscreen, and stamps. You’ll be printmaking sample banners to be hung up at our Chinatown Block Parties, then you’ll host a flow-thru workshop where Block Party participants can print more banners and their own t-shirts or tote bags. Swipe to see our 2024 artist, Annika Cheng @meijia_design ! With the exhibition "With Flying Colors" also displayed at @museumofcityny 's exhibition "Urban Stomp", Annika used recycled textiles from the Chinatown community to create banner flags. Think!Chinatown Block Parties attendees were invited to contribute garments and textile remnants. ✍️ The theme of the designs should tie in closely with Chinatown, appeal to an intergenerational Chinatown audience, and carry the joyous spirit of the block party! If interested, please carefully review the webpage: /open-call ✅ Apply via the link in bio! Deadline is April 23, 11:59pm. #thinkchinatown #opencall #printmaking
