YEAR 3 ANNIVERSARY‼️
It feels wild to realize that three years has already passed from when EXT. 606 went from “maybe this could work” to “we will make this work” mode. It’s such an honor to share that EXT. 606 will be providing FREE educational programming and resources in the new East County Library, opening on May 16th.
About two and a half years ago, we got an email from a fella that we seriously owe so much to - Jody Redifer. Jody asked if some folks from the library could come by and check the studio out to learn what it looks like. That single moment carved a journey from then to now building out the infrastructure to allow anyone in the area to learn industry standard tools, enable creativity, and inspire an endless wave of artistry.
EXT. 606 would literally be nothing if it wasn’t for the community that inspires us everyday. If you’re reading this, and have always wanted to learn audio + video but didn’t know where to start - this is seriously the moment of a lifetime. All you have to do is show up! More updates on program dates and offerings coming soon, but pull up to the grand opening to see it for yourself. Thank you so much to Multnomah County Library & The Library Foundation for letting us be a part of this amazing chapter.

🎲 ROLL THE DICE 🎲
Introducing our take, in collaboration with @corderocustoms , on a classic tool that makes mixing decisions less of a gamble.
In the off-chance you aren’t familiar with this kind of speaker, here’s the 101. Reference speakers like this sound like shit. They are not intended to impress, but used to reveal problem areas in a mix. If you can get your song sounding good on one of these, it’ll likely translate to any other source you play out of. These are an incredibly helpful tool that can be used in any setting without getting a noise complaint from the neighbors.
This absolutely wouldn’t have been a feasible endeavor without @corderocustoms looking at the OG cube we have at the studio, and proceeding to say “we could just make our own”. He has a ton of crazy stuff in the works, so give our number one woodgrain general some love.

TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY‼️ February 1st marked the two year anniversary of 606. A common question that gets asked is “who owns this place”. This is super strange to write out, but here’s an answer. Please bear with me. Haha.
My name is Anthony. My first introduction to art was via skateboarding. I met a lot of people who I still call my best friends, fell in love with cameras + filming, and traveling. I was 12 in the first photo and had just got my first skateboard. This blossomed into an ongoing chapter that guided my perspective on what’s possible in the world.
One of these events is being invited to this studio space. I had ZERO idea what the hell was going on with audio, but immediately fell in love with it. It was wildly serendipitous to me, because at the time, this was literally on the corner of the same block of my first job. I swear I couldn’t sleep because I wanted to learn as much as possible. I knew it was something I wanted to sustain in my creative life.
When the chance to take over this space came up, my brain immediately went to the negatives (costs, risks, etc.). Alternatively, I knew what it meant to walk into a space and realize it could change everything. That’s what pushed things forward. In August ’24 alone, I watched approximately $20K make it into the hand of creatives from 606 related activity. This moment showed me that money is truly a vehicle, and road trips would suck ass if you’re the only one in the car.
The short summary of year 2 & the future looks like this:
@barnradio is the best venue and gave us a chance to do a first try show in Feb ’24.
@letjoux is about to put out an album that will rip your heartstrings out.
@__emze tinkered into a fully custom built preamp and has more in store.
We’re on the road to starting a non-profit called TMS (That’s My Sh*t).

I had no idea how this was going to work out, but I can’t believe it’s still running smoothly two years later. The fuel to my flame is this - if you’re in it for selfish intentions or individual gain, we’re not on the same page. I’ve committed every day I’m still here to showing what impact looks like from the other side of the hill.
