“Eddie Francis discovered his passion for film-making at the age of 16 during his first experience on a film set, an encounter that left a lasting impression and set the course for his career. In 2004, he earned a degree in editing, which provided him with a solid foundation in visual storytelling and an eye for seamless narrative flow. Beginning his journey in the camera department, Eddie honed his technical skills through roles as a camera assistant and operator. A pivotal moment came in 2010 when he invested in his first Steadicam, a decision that transformed his career. With 16 years of experience, Eddie has become a seasoned Steadicam Operator whose expertise span across live TV, sports broadcasts, commercials, reality TV, music videos, TV dramas and feature films. His work embodies a blend of technical proficiency and creative vision, elevating visual storytelling and earning him recognition as a sought-after talent. A proud member of SASO (South African Society of Operators), Eddie is committed to the art and craft of camera operation.”

Over 10 years in the making & it's finally here… “The Trials of Winnie Mandela” is on NETFLIX in South Africa!!
I was asked more than a decade ago to come on board as Director of Photography for this documentary series, and it remains one of the greatest honours of my career.
To spend so much time with Winnie Madikizela-Mandela (“Mama Winnie” to me) — one of the most iconic, powerful and complex figures in the world — was deeply impactful. Her presence, her conviction, her contradictions, her grace… I’ve never encountered anything quite like it in all my years behind the camera.
This series was led by the extraordinary, award-winning, Mandy Jacobson, whose meticulous research, rigour, and deep humanity shaped every frame. A guiding force throughout, a constant teacher. Mandy, it is profoundly sad that you left us shortly after completing your director’s cut of what feels, unmistakably, like your magnum opus.
A personal milestone.
An honour.
Mama Winnie's life story is one of beauty and brutality, complexity and power — one that must be witnessed in its many facets to even begin to grasp the force that was Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

Specialising in Steadicam and gimbal operating, Marco combines precision and intuition to create deliberate, immersive imagery. Never afraid to experiment, he pushes his craft through a potent combination of technical operating, creative lighting, movement and lensing to bring a unique perspective to every project. Drawing on this strong foundation, Marco is now stepping confidently into the role of Director of Photography, ready to apply his visual instincts and technical expertise to lead projects from behind the lens.
When he isn’t working on documentaries, narratives or brand campaigns, you will find Marco out surfing or deep in the mountains.”
