pick me radio gigs are BACK and we’re super excited to present another trans-Atlantic show on August 20th at @waterintobeer ! Liam Grant (MA, USA) is a representative of the American Primitive movement, a style that combines neo-traditional country-folk elements with unconventional compositional and improvisational approaches. His first album “Amoskeag” was released by Carbon Records and Feeding Tube in 2023. His latest album “Prodigal Son” was released this year by VHF records, and has just been named one of the best albums of the year so far by @thequietus magazine : “His trajectory is through an obsession with the Joe Bussard / Fahey / 78rpm country and bluegrass zone, later filtered and infused with the broad influences of DIY and underground culture.” Joining Liam on the bill will be London-based Evie Hilyer-Ziegler, a fiddler, composer, and multi-instrumentalist known for her intuitive playing and warm, gritty sound. In recent months, she has been exploring repertoire which traces her family history through Scandinavia, America, and the British Isles. Evie also writes and performs with her projects Fen and Cusk, and has just returned from touring Wales with Peregrine Circus. April’s woes and whoas

‘The Den’ is a track of ours in the beautiful new compilation ‘a home of sorts, in parts’ from @heald_recordings - now available on Bandcamp. Grateful to be asked to contribute to this album, the proceeds of which are going to @doctorswithoutborders Have a look, listen, pay what you like, feel through the sounds. After 7 years of playing together this is our first release (!). There’s no going back now. More to follow at an unspecified but not too distant future date. The inspiration for this track came from an improvised response to @harrylaws.on ’s documentary about Millwall FC and the surrounding community. The namesake of the track.
