April 28! We have only 3 spots left in our first ever letterpress workshop with Evan Christie @evolutionpress Like us, Evan has long been inspired by the work of Paul Klee, whose theories on color remain relevant and revelatory 100 years after he first started teaching at the Bauhaus. Our workshop delves into the role of color theory in printmaking. We will experiment with a variety of layering and printing techniques following Klee’s principles, while learning to use small tabletop presses that were designed for use in schools. SIGN UP at the Workshop Link in our bio! . #studiopianonobile #studiopianonobileprintshop #studiopianonobileworkshop #letterpressworkshop #colortheoryworkshop

Our friend Evan Christie of @evolutionpress is here in the studio with his fleet of tabletop hand-lever letterpresses for our newest workshop: Color Theory and the Printing Press on April 28, 6-9 pm. Like us, Evan has long been inspired by the art and writing of Paul Klee, who taught at the Bauhaus 100 years ago and whose theories on art and color remain relevant and revelatory. Our workshop delves into the role of color in printmaking while we explore letterpress printing and have lots of fun experimenting. The presses that we are using were designed for schools, so it is fitting that we have them here in our almost 110 year old school building! Still some disagreement over what to call a collection of presses: a fleet, a flock, a murder, a herd? . #studiopianonobile #pianonobile #letterpressworkshop #colortheory #studiopianonobileworkshop

Our 2026 coaster collaboration features illustrator and designer David Plunkert @davidplunkert , whose bold, concept-driven imagery connects wit, structure, and visual storytelling. His work moves fluidly between abstraction and representation, transforming ideas into images that linger with meaning. Plunkert’s drawing reflects the essence of architectural creativity: the figure inhabits the very room he imagines, a reminder that design is a projection of self into livable space. Plunkert thrives in the balance between experimentation and formula. At Dowbuilt, we strive for a similar balance as designers, builders, and artists work together to bring extraordinary structures to life. This collaboration was made possible through shared effort. @hybrid3_studios translated Plunkert’s original sketches into printable form with care and precision, preserving the intent of the work while preparing it for production. @evolutionpress manufactured each coaster, bringing the design to life with an exceptional level of craft and attention. Thank you to the artists and partners who contribute to our coaster collaboration year after year.

Our 2025 coaster collaboration features Queens-based artist Elise Ferguson @e_a_ferguson , whose work draws from mathematical puzzles, geometry, and architectural systems. Shaped by a lifelong exposure to making—through her clothing designer mother and architect stepfather—Elise developed her process rooted in structure and precision. Elise builds layered surfaces of pigmented Venetian plaster, then adds repeating linear forms in graphite and silkscreened plaster to create rhythm, positive and negative space, and the illusion of continuous movement. We’re drawn to the architectural flourishes in Elise’s work and her embrace of systems that produce exacting detail. At Dowbuilt, we understand the role mathematics plays at every stage of the creative process. This collaboration was shaped by many hands. @hybrid3_studios translated Elise’s original drawings into printable form with care and clarity, ensuring the integrity of the work carried through production. @evolutionpress manufactured each coaster, applying an exceptional level of craftsmanship to every piece. Seen here, behind the scenes.

Our 2024 coaster collaboration features Texas artist Jon Flaming @jonflaming , whose modern take on the Western genre is rooted in honesty, independence, and storytelling. This collaboration came together through a shared process. Jon’s original artwork was carefully translated for print by @hybrid3_studios , our designer at Dowbuilt, who adapted the sketches so they could live in this new medium. Each coaster was then manufactured by @evolutionpress , whose deep attention to detail and craft brought the work to life. After years designing and illustrating for iconic American brands, Jon felt drawn toward fine art—painting scenes of cowboys, ranch life, and the quiet persistence of the American West. Jon was guided by a Post-it note on his computer that read: Forget the rules. We were drawn to the richness of Jon’s narratives and his themes of resilience and contemplation. At Dowbuilt, we understand what it means to work the land and build a homestead. Seen here, moments from the making.

Since 2023, Dowbuilt has collaborated annually with nationally celebrated artists and Seattle-based @evolutionpress to create a handmade series of coasters exploring a theme central to building one-of-one architecture. Each edition explores how space, geometry, design rules, and imagination inform both the creative process and the built environment. The collaboration is a shared effort. Artist sketches are translated for print by @hybrid3_studios , our designer at Dowbuilt, and produced by Evan Christie at Evolution, @evolutionpress , a studio whose attention to craft and detail is integral to every piece. Over the coming week, we’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes moments from our coaster collaborations. Our first collaboration features the work of Preston Singletary @prestonsingletaryglass , a celebrated glass artist who reimagines the designs and icons of his Native Tlingit heritage. Raised in Seattle, Preston began blowing glass in 1982 alongside the studio-glass masters of the Pacific Northwest. His sandblasted Alaskan Native formline designs on blown and cast glass play with light, space, rhythm, and movement. Seen here, moments in the making. Artist's photo: Russell Johnson

2025 was pretty cool, I guess. All the beautiful people in my life make it all worth it. I'm beyond lucky to have great friends who hold me dearly, and someone who holds my heart very closely. The people really make this whole thing fun. That's what I stick around for. I had some truly amazing times this year. Went to my first large vintage expo, traveled to Japan (finally), started taking art more seriously, got some more tattoos, fell in love, started consuming more physical media and music, started taking my fitness more seriously and I plan to continue doing all of this next year, too. Glad this stupid app is here to give me some form of inspiration from all the wonderful friends I have here. Anyway, I have no idea how this app expects me to sum up a year in 20 photos. I tried.. I really did. Happy New Year. Hope 2026 brings a lot of reflection and beautiful moments.
