Flashback to Sydney for @blackbirdvc #Sunriseaus26 & the 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕, Every Bit Counts thoughtLeader dinner 🌅 It was very cool to see people outside my own network interested & keen to participate, and fun to test a couple of layers including an EOI process (guest mix matters!) AND hosting a dinner where most of the guests weren’t already known to me, or to each other. The goal was to bring together founders, operators, investors, advisors and ecosystem leaders navigating the real tensions between growth, responsibility, viability and values, AND to quickly shape a warm, generous dynamic where guests felt comfortable to share and open to new ideas 💫 We gathered at the Incredible @refettorioozharvest , where every ticket through their 𝘗𝘢𝘺 𝘐𝘵 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘋𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳 model helps fund nourishing meals for people experiencing food insecurity 💛 The room held a wide mix of perspectives on scale, and I was reminded that when you get the mix right, IRL gathering sharpens thinking, builds trust, and can create ripple effects well beyond the night itself. A BIG Thank you to this wonderful group for being 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘯, and such a delight to dine with. I left inspired and very grateful for the messages that followed, including this beautiful reflection from Samantha Heron @heartandsoulstory : “Highlights were the incredibly rich conversations that came from having such a group of cross disciplinary individuals together around the table… Also, we know that food is a social glue, and it was beyond incredible, so delicious and almost unimaginable that the whole meal had been repurposed with such love and care.” Very grateful to everyone who joined us around the table, and to Blackbird / Sunrise for creating a platform to support these side events. Thoughtful curation is not a nice-to-have. It’s 𝘵𝘩𝘦 thing that makes a gathering matter.

An April thoughtLeader gathering 💖 bringing together some excellent people across systems, philanthropy, community and capital to explore the concept of 𝑴𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 & 𝑨𝒈𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 (shout out to @good.flock.movement !) We invited guests to leave day-to-day practicalities at the door. To Imagine. To ask “what if?” To try on a different hat; the provocateur, the optimist, the one who says the slightly uncomfortable thing. We spoke about the meerkats at the Royal Children’s Hospital (one of my favourite examples of a wild idea coming to life) About what we’d each do if we landed $10m of funding tomorrow Of philanthropy stats, social contracts, the Pope, the space ‘in between’ And how do we might nourish the system rather than fight it?  Talk about brain explode 😉 We’re loving hosting & co-hosting these small, intentional, often cross-sector gatherings. I’ve been on hols this week, and this little ‘In’s & Out’s’ list has been sparked by experiences I’ve had recently - and many conversations with those who are in hospo… it’s a tough time in hospitality - and I don’t think there’s much that’s more precious than a beloved local restaurant or beautiful dining experience. I’m so grateful to those who risk so much to bring these spaces to us in our cities and regions. The places we gather, make memories, visit and return to 💖 The costs of running a business are vast (I shld know, I’m on business #4!) Rent, Insurances, good staff - and hiring, variances in produce prices (and delivery fees of late!), music, interior refreshes, training & professional development, legal, marketing, tech platforms, theft - you name it… it just never stops. I think we need to shift our view of value from how much a steak costs to how much we value an evening in a different environment. The beauty of the food world is that everyone has an opinion. I’d love to hear your thoughts ✨ Kate

Anyone who knows me well, will know that Easter is my favourite time of year 🐰 It often falls close to my birthday, I love Autumn’s crisp weather, blue skies and changing colours, andddd don’t get me started on my love of chocolate ; ) !! Every year, I find myself watching what local creatives put out into the world. The ideas, their interpretations, the sometimes wild colabs! Nearly 9 years ago. A celebration that turned into an engagement, held at Entrecôte - Domain Road. Spent today back around the table with Jason & the team, shaping their 10 Year book launch strategy. Walking home afterwards, feeling how much life has happened within the world of @entrecotemelbourne ! Some places don’t just serve food. They pour the bubbles, spark the laughter & quietly become part of your life 💖
