Al Qalam: Poets in the Park is a permanent public artwork at Elizabeth H. Berger Plaza, commemorating the literary legacy of New York City’s first Arabic-speaking community.
ㅤ
Commissioned by the Washington Street Historical Society in partnership with NYC Parks, the artwork was created by French-Moroccan artist Sara Ouhaddou and centres on a sculptural interpretation of Al Qalam, meaning “The Pen.”
ㅤ
Eventscape was honoured to support this meaningful project through the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of the artwork’s carefully crafted aluminum elements, finished in a vibrant, durable powder coat. Eventscape also fabricated the conically curved back structures for the existing stone benches and integrated the glass and ceramic mosaic panels by Miotto Mosaics.
ㅤ
A beautiful tribute to memory, language, migration, and the enduring power of the written word.
