Looking very much forward to what the coming year will bring ! 📝 📖 💌 This painting is a portrait of someone being a caterpillar becomming sooner or later a butterfly. It's displayed next to the entrance of my first solo exhibition. Maybe a sign? Anyway... I feel like a butterfly today 🦋 This weekend is the finissage of my exhibition @archipelexpo . (( Slachthuislaan 23, Antwerp: tomorrow and Saturday 14-17 hr ! )) Merci again @mondriaanfonds !

Today Eva, our first spring resident returned home after spending five weeks with us in the village. She learned very quickly how to handle the tools and to work on the marble and she was even able to make a beautiful marble based on her own design at the end.  Her love for letters, the Greek script and language brought her to carving lots of letters. She also delved into Greek mythology. Together with her fellow resident Melissa, they told each other every day a new myth. Eva even started corresponding with this ancient cosmos, making little marble envelopes adressed to the Greek gods. Eva explored the island, walked the old mule paths, picked χόρτα, admired goats and sheep and was happy! Although not a really a cat lover, she couldn’t get enough of Αρετή, to the cat’s delight.  So it isn’t only us who are sad to let Eva go. Her curiousity, her ambition to learn and her beautiful sharp carving will be remembered! We hope to see her back soon and wish her lots of luck with her work, both on painting and in marble. Eva’s stay was made possible by Amarte Fonds and the Artist Start Stipendium from the Mondriaan Fonds. @evavanbemmelen @a.bmmmmmmmm #marblesculpture #artresidency #filipposkagiorgis #pyrgostinos #intangibleculturalheritage

Four weeks on the island now and I am still discovering the marble. How soft, hard, sharp, and strong the material is and can be. Finding stone carved graffiti, picking lemons, oranges and Horta. Trying to read the greek letters and writing letters to the ancient goddes. 𓎢𓎠𓎟𓎠𓎡 I am very grateful to the Mondriaanfonds for granting me the Artist Start Stipendium, which enables me to take new steps in my professional development. I am also very grateful to Amarte for the additional financial support for the work period in this residency program. 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 And of course Thank you Patricia Pulles and marmermaster Filippos Kagiorgis who are introducing me to this beautiful craftsmanship. ꩜🤍𓆩♡𓆪☁️ P.s. starting a newsletter soon 📰 subscribe via 🔗 in bio or on my website 💌 @mondriaanfonds @amartefonds @marble_residency_pyrgos

‘𝑖𝑘 ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑟 𝑗𝑒 𝑖𝑘 𝑧𝑖𝑒 𝑗𝑒’
