Yesterday was an incredible day of celebrating feminist architectural writing at the Bartlett.
I had the opportunity to present my ecopoetic creative research on Tramontana, a northerly hurricane-like wind present in the North Adriatic.
Writing with(-in) the wind rejects the established duality between humans and nature, and instead proposes to engage with the wind materially, ecologically and philosophically.
We notice changes in weather by noticing changes in ourselves first. Making sense of these changes can’t be separated or distanced from the way weather forms and transforms landscapes, memory, the body, the imagination and routine practices in particular places. We are continuously formed and transformed by weather,
winds, seasons and temperatures.
We, like the wind, are a movement of air, a system of fluxes and forces. We, like the wind, are a balancing act of becoming, a turning towards and a turning away ad continuum.
And noticing my noticing, I become weathered.
Appreciation post for all the incredible feminist practitioners, researchers and artists I had the pleasure of encountering again or anew. It was an honour sharing space with you all.
The event began by remembering all those who weren’t able to join us due to war, genocide and other oppressive injustices. Amazing students of @uclsitprac read incredible poems by a variety of authors resisting oppressive regimes around the world.
Thank you to everyone who participated.

You know how incredible the event was based oh how bad my photos are….

Paris, 2023.
I have been nudged to share more of my photography with the world, so here is one from last year. Ideally, the radiator on bottom right could be edited out, but in the world of AI perfection, I decided to let it stay, perhaps as a grounding mechanism of some sorts.

Tracing Tramontana: writing with-in the wind is an ecopoetic experiment in windy spatial writing that intertwines science with history, feminist geography and ecology.
Tramontana is a strong northerly, often a hurricane-like wind that blows from the Alps to the Venice bay, over Trieste, to Slovenian coast and Istria. Characterised by its transient and turbulent nature, the wind crosses the national borders of Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia, as it unravels over the Adriatic Sea.
To think with-in the wind rejects human separation from nature and alters our ‘accepted cartographies’ of space, time and species, so that ‘matter can matter differently’ (Neimanis 2016).
I made this digital drawing to materialise the process of engaging with the wind, using weather maps and planetary wind computations.

Some old digital work that I found today.
Final image is the "original" that I made from a photograph of a statue in front of the British library.
Part of a project inspired by Ivan Cankar.
"Hlapci! Za hlapce rojeni, za hlapce vzgojeni, ustvarjeni za hlapčevanje. Gospodar se menja, bič pa ostane, in bo ostal za vekomaj; zato, ker je hrbet skrivljen, biča vajen in željan!"

Universally universal story perhaps?
'Universal' as relating to or done by all people or things, applicable to all cases.
'Universal' as that of or by the universe.
