still processing all the feelings; 7/28/24 lāpule, the southwestern horizon revealed the familiar pāpale clouds enshrouding haleakala and maunakea. it was like ancient kapa unwrapping an ancestral gift. 22 days and 2709 nautical miles had passed since we last saw land. we were greeted by manu noio, familiar star cambers and the sheer excitement of home. the following morning the koʻolaus rose from the sea, proceeding an emotional reception from our ʻohana. to feel the warm embrace of our community and the fragrance of ʻāina was by far the greatest feeling of accomplishment we could have imagined. mahalo piha to each and every one of you who kept us in your thoughts and prayers, you have been a blessing in our journey. there are to many to fit in one post… you all know who you are looking forward to sharing our moʻolelo in the following days, but for now, we rest. mahalo @noelkenni for capturing this moment ( & @mayalapai @kelike_teshima ) if anyone else has homecoming photos / videos please reach out!

Hahalua meaning “double breath”. This beautiful elder visited us on a dark night attracted by planktonic organisms illuminated through our flashlight. This surreal moment was a hoʻopili in our relationship, adopting it as our symbol. Almost %50 of the oxygen we breathe comes from phytoplankton. Another example of our dependency on understanding and loving our oceans. Our canoe is a Waʻa Kaulua “double hulled canoe” , symbol of the reciprocal dual breath we try to keep in balance
