[ Becoming with the Garden ] is a site-specific residency conceived as an expanded music studio. Here, the garden becomes a dwelling point—a living, breathing collaborator.
Through this act of becoming-with, of observing and absorbing, I translate the ecology of the garden into sound—composing about nature and with it.
This is immersion will be in form of a 30-40 minutes live sound performance featuring original compositions produced while in the garden. Through a 4 channel audio performance, I aim to activate the garden in to a space resonating with animated soundscapes.

I would describe Yogyakarta as a breathing city. It is a landscape that expands and contracts as if it’s a heart beating, a living entity that pulsates day and night. Inspired by the city’s animations, I, together with Mirika and Yan, put together melted_fables. Our vision was to explore improvisation within the context of our individual practices. An exploration of the totality of experience within the presentness of our perceived concrete realities.

melted_fables is a multidisciplinary collective that aims to weave visuals, sounds, and movements into fabulated narratives inspired by the constantly moving ‘present’.
Here, shifts between the real and the surreal are constructed, deconstructed, and reconstructed -like candles melted together to reborn again as the same, yet different object. Through live improvisation and generative processes, our performances unfold as an ever-evolving choreographic landscapes where sound animates space, bodies glitch into light, and stories emerge only to dissolve again.

🇮🇩 Transcultural Collaboration in Indonesia 🇮🇩
Earlier this year, SAC student Jett @escuri_ph was selected for @shared_campus in Yogyakarta, Indonesia – here's what he experienced at the cross-disciplinary programme:
"Yogyakarta is a culturally rich place. Its history, culture, and people are an interconnected network. It is an intimate web tied by the idea of collective. It is a dynamic space with a colorful landscape and a never sleeping soundscape. It is a city that is disorganized yet organized and I, an outsider of the place and culture, was affected by its animations.
In my month-long immersion, I learned to be more open by letting go of my expectations and allowing myself to be open to various possibilities when it comes to working with others. I developed my adaptability in a way that I was able to adjust myself to new working conditions, dealing with different kinds of people with different ways of thinking. Within the collaborative work, I am able to be both an observer & instigator, and take note of ways artists navigate their own creative thinking & idea materialization. Here, ‘becomingness’ reawakened —perpetually in flux, ceaselessly unfolding, and ever transforming."

「新年快樂」 It was not easy an transition to navigate this new territory where I am situated now. Not only I have to deal with my environment but also it was a real challenge to navigate my inner self given that I have to adjust emotionally and mentally. Even though that I am trying hard to live in the present, the imprint of the past still lingers and uncertainty of the future still remains as a constant companion. It is a personal roller coaster ride. An 🌑 ouroboros 🌕 of struggle and renewal as I start over in this chapter.
I am hopeful for a fresh start this first new moon of the year. 「Thanks to the moon’s gravitational pull」

I believe that sounds around us are a driving force that affects us emotionally and physically. We listen to music to help our bodies to be animated. We play our favorite soundtracks to evoke our mood and our emotions.
By navigating our cities, we are exposed to their music, a music that we architects and engineers of our landscape composed. With regards to this, I suppose that we, as inhabitants of our cities, are responsible for its musicality, its rhythm, its tone, dynamics, and narrative. As a result, we consciously and subconsciously are influenced by the sonic landscape that we inhabit.
With this in mind, for this piece titled Flow State, I immersed myself within the busy streets of Manila. Walked around its alleyways, observed its movements, and flowed with its public transportations. Through this interaction, I examined what our responsibility is as a listener and as a ‘sound designer’ to contribute to both the sonic and physical ecology of our cities. Rooting from this experience, I produced a 3 minutes rhythmic sound work composed of guitar lines, synthesis, and gathered field recordings that resonates Manila’s flow state.

[ Oct_Residency Update 🇹🇼 ] How do we hear our cities? How do we listen to them? In what ways do we contribute to our cities’ unspoken narratives? What elements contribute to the harmony of our cityscapes? These are just a few questions that I’ve been pondering ever since I arrived here in Taipei in early last month.
So far, I have experienced Taipei as a city that constantly resonates with a multitude of sonic layers during the day and whispers (often roars) during the night. Traversing this local landscape, usually through walking and cycling, often brings me to a period of reflection or thought.
Much like the intricate network of train lines, roads, and pathways that connect the city, listening to its voice leads me in various unexpected directions.

Before September ends, allow me to share with you a glimpse of my @artfairph | @emergingislands residency experience that took place earlier this month. 🌊 San Fernando, the heart of La Union, is a very intimate city that houses an inspiring community, friendly locals, and interesting sonic narratives. I spent half of my time there wandering through long walks, thinking, and re-evaluating my practice as a sound artist. It was a time well spent slowing down, breathing fresh air, and resting my ears from the cacophony of Manila. The other half of my stay was dedicated to embracing the productive and adrenaline-packed energy of the people around me. This fruitful encounter with the community allowed me to form connections not only with the city's inhabitants but also to have a glimpse of the possibilities for collaborations and shaping creative ideas for my artistic practice.
I am super excited to see Elyu again next year! 🌊
📢 Dear everyone! I invite you all to the opening of The Listening Biennial later at @upfineartsgallery . The program starts at 11 AM onwards. 📢
Here, I have produced a work titled p_o_s_i_t_i_o_n_s, a 14-channel sound installation that seeks to uncover the concealed dimensions and possibilities within our sonic environment. This work explores the intricate relationship between sound and space, mediated through human actions.
The Listening Biennial (PH) is curated by none other than Doc @nirvanayraola . Shout out as well to @ic.jaucian , Mitch Shivers, @hermitscave , and the whole TLB team for the support!
Check the link below for more information about The Listening Biennial: /

On Animated_Landscape, Ilagan situates his experience of a complex system of chaos in Manila, the city where he lives — cars, combustion, weather, politics and people. By seeing sound as graphical notations, sound became an abstraction, a visual representation of sound. In this transformation of sound to visual, Ilagan created a visual field journal, a rigorous account of what it means to live in a city like Manila. In Ilagan’s means to create this exhibition is a soft proposition — on how we can imagine to compose a better world for us, that we may realize that the ecological notations should be rearranged and performed accordingly in order to survive and live a life that resembles a utopia. -D.
