The ONE-SHARK project is back on a scientific treasure hunt!
One of our satellite tags, previously deployed on a tiger shark, has just surfaced and is now drifting north of the British Virgin Islands. 🌍.
This GPS tag will keep transmitting its position for a few more days and we need volunteer sailboats in the area to help us recover it as soon as possible! 🚤.
✅ The tag has detached from the shark, so there’s no risk regarding its possible beaching area. 📡 We will provide updates on its location to track its journey.

Successful Satellite Tag Recovery! 🎯🌊
For over a month, we searched for contacts willing to help us reach the open ocean to recover our satellite tag. Thanks to the incredible support of the @snsm.sxm and the CROSS Antilles-Guyane, we were able to coordinate between the land and sea teams, ensuring we had the latest position updates.
Yesterday, March 8th—four days after its first surface transmission—we set off on a 50NM journey from Saint Martin. With perfect weather conditions, we picked up the tag’s signal on our radar, and in just 45 minutes (a new record to beat!), the SNSM pilots and observers spotted and recovered it in the middle of a small sargassum patch.
This marks the beginning of what we hope will be many more successful recoveries! We’re now experienced in tracking and retrieving satellite tags, and we’re eager to support future collaborations.
If you know of any programs using similar tags in the Caribbean, we’d love to help! Let’s make this the first of many. 🔥🌎

Nous avons développé à sa demande des pointes à biospier en titane afin qu’il réalise des prélèvements sur les ailerons des requins et avons mis a sa disposition un SKL 125 Hybride Démontable qui l’accompagne dans sa valise lors de ses voyages de Tahiti aux Fidji en passant par la Réunion.
Nous sommes fiers et heureux d’apporter notre modeste contribution à la compréhension et donc à la protection des requins car notre posture d’observateurs privilégiés du monde sous-marin nous a permis de comprendre qu’un océan sans requin est un océan mort. En pêche sous-marine lorsque les requins sont présents on sait que toute la chaîne alimentaire est saine.

Nous avons l’immense fierté de vous annoncer que Skilla va soutenir la recherche sur les requins au travers d’un partenariat avec le professeur Eric Clua, éminent pêcheur sous-marin et chercheur de renom.
Eric, en voyant la qualité de nos produits et nos capacités de développement, nous a demandé , il y a quelques mois, de réfléchir à un design de pointe à biopsie pour les requins avec un cahier des charges très précis.
