With the physical demands of shooting handheld, ‘toughing it out’ isn’t a badge of honor, it’s a path to debilitating injuries that can impact your life long after you stop rolling. It’s not a surprise that excess weight on your spine significantly increases your risk of injury, but a recent British Journal of Sports Medicine study gives it some numbers. This study was about body weight, where the load is much more distributed than a camera on your shoulder, so pretty scary once you put the load in one spot and most cameras are 10-15kg!
