We are thrilled to announce our second solo show at Envelope featuring work by Beto Ladarlo. Beto is a photographer and artist from Los Angeles, California, working primarily in portraiture and documentary photography. His work centers on vulnerability and human connection, capturing honest and intimate moments between himself and his subjects. For the exhibit at Envelope, Beto is presenting a series of nine portraits that are part of an ongoing project called “Death to Machismo,” in which he examines how male-identifying individuals in the Latinx community create their own concepts of masculinity that deviate from the toxic notions of machismo. The project captures their expressions of manhood that challenge deeply ingrained cultural norms while staying authentic to their heritage. Through intimate portraits and personal stories, the series explores a spectrum of inclusivity and progressive notions, offering a fresh perspective on masculinity in the Latino community. Ultimately, it seeks to promote a more inclusive and evolving understanding of manhood within this cultural context. In addition to prints and framed works for sale, we will have a limited run of Beto’s zine of the same name. We hope to see you at the opening reception. Beverages will be served. Xo ✉️ Beto Ladarlo: Death to Machismo Opening Saturday, April 4th / 6-9pm Show runs thru the 24th and will be on display Thursday-Sunday 10-5pm or by appointment.

This Friday! November 7th / 6-9pm 1609 W. Main Street — Envelope is excited to announce an exhibit that will be on display for the month of November titled Breaking Ground: Identifying Indigeneity. Opening on first Friday, November 7th, Breaking Ground is in partnership with the Virginia Native Art Alliance. Curated by Rebecca Hill and Mauricio Vargas, the exhibit is part of an ongoing effort by the VNAA to shed light on indigenous art from around the Richmond area and beyond. In addition, we will have special programming related to the show, including a flintnapping workshop, natural clay foraging workshop, and more. I hope to see you all there and please do share this far and wide so we can give these narratives the attention they deserve. Thanks! ✌️♥️ “Breaking Ground: Identifying Indigeneity situates contemporary Native art within the language of the dig. Paintings, pottery, and basketry rise from soil and trench—excavated not as artifact, but as assertion. The earth becomes both archive and witness, holding what has always been present. Here, Indigeneity is not unearthed—it emerges. The exhibition collapses time, positioning modern Indigenous expression amid the residue of history. What surfaces is not discovery, but continuity and resilience. To “break ground” here is to unsettle—an act of reorientation that reminds us Indigeneity is not something found; it is continually becoming. Organized, in part, by the Virginia Native Arts Alliance, a native arts council with a mission to uplift Indigenous voices and art within Tsenacommacah, (Virginia). Each work resists the notion of the Native as artifact. Instead, the artists position themselves as both origin and future—rooted yet restless, emerging from the same ground that once buried their stories. The installation becomes an active site of renewal, where material, memory, and land converge.”

Hey all, taking a break from events this month to do some renovations around the space and dodge the peak of this insane summer heat, but here are some moments from the last couple months at Envelope. It’s been a whirlwind building out and organizing, but looking back got me all misty with gratitude for the love and support from so many folks around town and beyond. Thank you all for helping to get the space started on the right foot and keep an eye out in August for more performances, workshops, screenings, etc. Much much love, Richmond. Xoxo. -Mauricio

Hey all, opening our doors to the public for first Friday, February 07. Come by and check out the space and let’s talk about ways to collaborate. We will still be putting the finishing touches on the space into March but wanted to kick off the year with a little musical showcase before it turned into a functioning work/shop space. We’ll have bands playing from 6-10pm and DJs later in the evening. There will also be vendors, including @feverdreamforge @w0lf.cat , @daheim.goods , @nowhere.thrifted and more. If you would like to table, shoot me a message. Also, If you plan on coming after 9, please consider buying a ticket beforehand to ensure entry. Link in bio. Thanks! See you then ✌️♥️

@thelevelparty is an DJ collective and event producer based out of NYC. We’ve been working with the org since their early days in the DIY scene, doing flyers and other promotional material. Fast forward to today, they gave us the opportunity to refresh the brand with a new logo and visual branding, and once again, it was a festive collaboration to say the least. Much love to the crew, keep doing what you do. 🫶 #branding #visualidentity #logo #graphicdesign #djcollective #NYC #flyerdesign #
