From offers of discount codes from encaustic suppliers, to demonstrations by members on our zoom calls, fantastic publicity and social media engagement by members & supporters, press release coverage and statistics, it really has been a team effort that has grown from the original Small Project Grant we were awarded way back at the beginning of 2025. The project has gathered momentum throughout and we are excited to see what grows from this initial first all encaustic event in the UK. We received some wonderful comments about the artworks from the public vote as well which we will share over the coming days. Many Artists have their work for sale and have put details in the exhibition flip book for you to contact them directly if you wish to buy. I have produced a series of small panoramic encaustic wax paintings of the Isle of Portland…this one is very close to where I live. The shed, dilapidated and being consumed by the undergrowth, shielding a now abandoned small stone quarry. One of the special places on Portland. I am taking part in @dorsetartweeks 23rd May to 7th June, and will be demonstrating fine art encaustic wax painting. Venue 127 in the Guide. St. George’s Studios. Reforne. I’m proud to have two of my works exhibited alongside so many talented artists, as part of The Art of Place - the first UK encaustic wax art exhibition. I’m based in Cornwall, this is one of my pieces ‘Cloud Breaks’ capturing the ever moving bursts of sunshine breaking through onto the water on the North Cornish coast. All painted with hot molten wax. Depicting my ‘Art of Place’ 🥰 My entries - ‘Four Seasons’ & ‘Forest Flame’ This very first ever UK Encaustic Wax Exhibition is now live and ends on 11th April. This new group of 33 artists has been formed by two lovely tutors @lynkirklandart and @julieannsgallery Our remit was to create a piece of work that expresses our current surroundings, and, as I am privy to the seasonal changes in the Forest of Dean I found a beautiful antique bottle and decided to capture the emotions and colours I feel from those seasons. And ‘Forest Flame’, which captures the colours from the embers, as I ‘see’ & ’feel’ the forest. This mini bud vase in the exhibition is available to purchase at £45 including postage within the UK. Glass, coloured wax, mark making, oil paints and a lot of ‘fire’! Here is a poem based on my entries: From garden bloom to forest line, I watched the seasons turn through time. In shifting air, in drifting hue, each change revealed something true. So l held their voice within my hand, and painted what I understand. The Art of Place online exhibition is LIVE! Over 30 Encaustic artworks inspired by the places that artist live, have lived or are inspired to live in the UK. My contribution is ‘Hut at the Bill’. Traditional views of Portland Bill on the Isle of Portland in Dorset include the iconic lighthouse. This view is from the sea looking up at a lone ‘hut’. The sea is unusually calm and the sky is summertime blue. A place just a short walk from my home. A place that I love. (Encaustic wax paint & pigment sticks on wood panel). Yes I was very nervous, learning techniques with experienced artists has got to be nerve racking right!😱 You think you’re going to end up saying the wrong things, or read other people incorrectly, or just slip up by masking your nerves with more wine! 🍷 🤣 But no, the whole week ended up with warm friendships being formed and a sense of belonging. My thanks to Lyn & @ursi_lysser for just being you 🥰 The retreat allowed me to broaden my experience and feel more confident in what I do and thanks now to Lyn and JulieAnn, also an experienced artist and teacher that attended, this wonderful group called, Encaustic Hive UK has been formed.
