We had the absolute honour of welcoming Jeremy Corbyn, Independent MP for Islington North, into Camden Records studio, alongside Emma Townshend and Cameron Craig, Executive Directors at the Music Producers Guild 🎶🤝 We want to advocate for real change, and what better way than sitting down together with people who truly understand the industry and have lived experience advocating for it 💬 Jeremy Corbyn has long supported music and the arts, championing music education, grassroots venues, and community access through initiatives like Music For The Many 🎸📚 His connection to music goes far beyond policy, including his own personal history as a musician. Emma and Cameron, alongside the wider Music Producers Guild, represent producers, engineers, mixers, and studios across the UK 🎧 They support careers, campaign for workers’ rights, promote diversity, and make sure the music community’s voice is heard at government level. So what was this meeting all about? 👇 There are over 500 recording studios across the UK. Alongside grassroots venues, they support artists, create jobs, and contribute directly to local economies 🌍🎵 But many are now fighting to survive. 📊 Business rates up 25% 🚫 Rising costs can’t be passed onto artists ⚠️ 50% considering closure within 12 months The MPG and UK Music are already pushing for change, calling on the UK government to recognise recording studios under the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure business rates scheme. We’re proud to host conversations like this and to stand alongside those protecting the spaces where music is made 🎧✨ Thank you again to everyone involved 💛 @musicproducersguild @emtownsend09 @cameroncraig77 @jeremycorbyn #GrassrootsMusic

Yesterday, the Music Producers Guild, together with UK Music (@_ukmusic ) and joined by legendary producer Paul Epworth (@paulepworth ), delivered our open letter to Number 10 Downing Street. We are deeply grateful for the support shown by our members and the wider music community. We now hope the Government will reconsider its position on business rates.
