Empire Tri Club wrapped up another incredible annual swim camp last weekend in Fort Lauderdale!
A group of 24 athletes and 3 coaches escaped to sunny South Florida for a weekend packed with swimming, skill-building, and team connection.
Over the course of three days, we fit in three 2-hour pool sessions, two open water swims, and three hours of classroom work—along with some well-earned beach time, volleyball, and a team dinner. A few motivated athletes even coordinated extra group runs between sessions!
As expected, the ocean kept things interesting. Our first open water swim brought choppy conditions, pushing athletes to manage nerves, adapt to waves and current, and build confidence in less-than-ideal conditions. It was a great reminder that race day rarely offers perfect conditions too—so training in a variety of environments is key to being prepared for anything.
In the pool, we focused on drills designed to refine technique, including catch, hand entry, breathing, body position, and rotation. In open water, we worked on sighting, swimming in groups, and navigating entries and exits.
This group showed up ready to learn, challenge themselves, and support one another every step of the way. The camaraderie extended beyond the water too—whether it was beach volleyball or shared meals, it was clear this team continues to grow stronger together.
We’re excited to watch what this crew accomplishes this season and grateful to have been part of the journey!
