To this day, "Venus Volatilis" is my favorite painting I have ever made. This piece is filled with my own personal iconography, references to art history, and contemporary hints that all speak to the feminine experience of romantic love💘

This project was inspired by the book, Femina, written by Janina Ramirez, documenting the lives of powerful women in the Middle Ages, which led me to ask myself how we are documenting femininity and womanhood today. Thank you for your inspiring work @drjaninaramirez 🩷

This piece, Walk of Shame, explores parts of the feminine experience that are more challenging. The phrase, "Walk of Shame" is typically only applied to women to shame them for embracing sensuality. I chose to appropriate that term to express my own complex feelings surrounding sensuality as a woman. In this scene, I was inspired by Masaccio's early Renaissance fresco, "Expulsion From the Garden of Eden " but here, I am Adam, Eve, and the Angel, simultaneously feeling vindication, shame, and judgement, all at once. The feminine experience can be hard sometimes, but I think it's important to embrace those parts the most🩷

My painting, The Wild Unicorn, is based on the medieval "Captured Unicorn" series at the Met Cloisters here in NYC💖 According to the medieval myth, only a maiden could lure a unicorn in to be captured, but in my painting, the unicorn is wild and free🦄
