Project Hail Mary is out now!! Another insane technical learning curve but what a job and what a TEAM! I learnt so much and I am forever grateful to have worked with @stuartwilsonsound @benjeffes @lizziejking and @julka_mars so early on in my career (who isn’t actually a bully she failed the training) It was amazing being exposed to using phonaks everyday to run so many different feeds, induction loops, various music feeds, clear comms, sound booths and just an epic 5 months I’ll never forget!! Amaze, amaze, amaze Go see it ❤️🚀

2025 has been EPIC!! Met loads of cute animals and worked with a lot of amazing people. Highlight was definitely flying to St Louis (USA!!!) for the weekend to surprise my amazing cousin @jack__hanley at his wedding to @beehalliday ❤️ On a totally unrelated note… can’t wait for Wuthering Heights, Project Hail Mary, Avengers:Doomsday and It Gets Worse to release in 2026!!

Grandmama can’t make it to see me play The Last Post tomorrow morning, so I gave her a little VIP private concert in the garden!! ❤️

That’s a wrap on A24 and Channel 4’s ‘It Gets Worse’! Best crew I’ve ever worked with and this job was so fun! The whole crew worked as one department to create something genuinely hilarious and I miss it already! Thanks Calum for having me on and trusting me with the radio mics, and for stepping me up to boom operator for the 2 camera days (of which there were 22/31!! 🤓) Thanks Renzo for running the floor so calmly and to Andrew our trainee for working so hard and for always knowing where our water bottles were! 🤞 for season 2!! I flew to St Louis this weekend to surprise @jack__hanley and @beehalliday at their wedding! It has been the most exciting and wholesome 48 hours and I’ve loved every second of it, and I’m so pleased @ellahanley1 captured this video so I can watch the shock over again and again and again! I’ve had the best time reconnecting with my cousins and American family and I honestly can’t wait to go back again!!

FOOTFALL ON WICKED: A question I get asked regularly is how we dealt with footfall on Wicked. These pictures show our tried and tested methods. On the wide shots we treat the actors shoes as best we can, but it's always a compromise between noise and grip. But as soon as we start shooting closer angles our 2nd Assistant Sound Taz Fairbanks @tazfairbanks literally jumps into action along with our incredible 3rd AS's Harry King @harryking20 & Emily Compton @emilycomptonsound 1st AS's Arthur Fenn & Robin Johnson work with the camera operators and DP Alice Brooks @_alicebrooks_ to let Taz & team know exactly where the edges of frame are and how deep into the set they can lay the carpets. My job is to assess exactly how many background artists/dancers we see on screen as we capture the first take , and immediately negotiate with Chris Scott @chrislxd the choreographer and Jack Ravenscroft the 1st AD to remove anyone who's not on screen for take 2, to reduce even more footfall. We also use white or cream coloured carpets whenever Alice requires, which is another element of Arthur, Alice's and David Smith @davidsmith172020 the Gaffer's close collaboration. It seems logical, but under the pressure of shooting and the time limitations sometimes all this is happening in literally 90 seconds: but, it's worth it! This dedication to the art of capturing live, original performances completely changes the tracks I am sending into Sound Post and gives them much cleaner performances to work with. Traditionally, the time between takes for shooting crew is a time to recover from intense concentration and physicality ready for the next take, especially for Boom Operators (1st AS's). On Wicked, as a team, we put in such a huge effort to remove the noise of footfall, the Production Sound Team rarely got a moment to relax. A lovely end to 2024!!! So amazing seeing @sisterwivesfilm in the longlist for a @bafta !! This year I worked on my first 2 feature films as Sound Trainee and I can’t wait to keep on working and learning in 2025! It was also my first time seeing something I worked on in the cinema which was very very cool!
