Philippines | Chapter 3
Negros – Moalboal – Batangas – Manila
A solo explore (with a sweet two‑night cameo from the Chisnalls 🥰).
From Siquijor I took a small boat to Dumaguete to the island of Negros – barely a footnote in the Lonely Planet, which turned out to be its charm. Black‑sand beaches that sparkle in the sun, hidden waterfalls, and two huge mountain peaks wrapped in thick tropical forest - and me scootering around 🛵
A day trip to Apo Island delivered a perfect underwater day – five sea turtles drifting calmly past un phased by my presence 🐢
Then came a car, a boat, and another car to Moalboal, Cebu. The area was badly hit by Typhoon Odette in 2021, and the beach still shows the scars, but what’s beneath the surface is pure magic – clouds of sardines, curious turtles, and every colour of tropical fish. Pangasama town kept me happily entertained for a few easy nights.
Next up: an 11‑hour travel marathon 😣 to a beautiful wellness hideaway tucked into the jungle south of Manila – the perfect place to slow everything down before heading home.
Or so I thought…
Qatar Airways had other plans: cancelled flight, 7‑hour delay, 5 more hours in Doha, and a grand total of 23 hours in transit 🤪
But hey ho – that’s travel.

3 nights at charming El Rio on Busuanga Island ➝ overland to Coron ➝
4 days / 3 nights by boat, sleeping on remote island camps (not for the faint-hearted!) ➝
Bulog Island • Banana Island • Cobra Island • Cagdanao Island • Takling Island • Atwayan Reef • Arraw Reef • Asis Reef • Ditaytayan Sandbar ➝ overland to El Nido.
It’s been an adventure already. I’ve never seen such endless stretches of white sand and water this blue, backed by jungle so intensely green it barely looks real. Snorkelling sights of tropical fish, coral and creatures that will never again be matched 🐡🐠⭐️🐟🐙🦑🪸🪼🐚🦀🦐👀🧜🏼♀️
Christmas Day was spent on a series of impossibly beautiful beaches… and a “character-building” campsite.
Acknowledgment to ‘The humidity’ which needs its own billing: We’re all 80% marinaded moisture and frizz at this point.
And next — we’re ready to stay in one place for longer than three nights 😅
