Dear Human,
Weâd like to tell you the story of
@elyshabeckerman
âTraveling opens my heart to our shared humanity, inviting me to see the world through othersâ eyes and feel the rhythm of their daily lives. In these moments, my soul becomes tethered not to just the surroundings, but to the people who bring a place to life.â
1. Polignano is home to one of my greatest loves (gelato) and affectionately known as the âCity of Gelato.â At its heart is the Campanella family and their famed âSuper Mago del Gelo,â where locals gather every Sunday for a sweet treat amongst the seaside air.
2. â In Venice, boating isnât just a way of life. Itâs a necessity. The Venetian limousines (water taxis) are steered by drivers whose families have navigated these canals for generations, preserving a tradition of skill and pride on the water.
3. â Music in Mexico City is woven into the fabric of daily life, with its people keeping the countryâs rich musical heritage alive in every street, plaza, and cafĂŠ.
4. â The elegant, intimate
@theclementebar in Manhattan serves perfectly brined, unpurchasable olives, crafted by Daniel Hummâs kitchen to complete the Clemente Martini. Its flavor feels like a secret shared only between you and the chefs, hidden in the glass.
5. â At 8 in the morning, with the Sicilian heat nearing 31 degrees, heâd greet me in Italian-English, proudly offering figs from his garden near Mt. Etna, and wish me a wonderful day. My favorite way to start each morning.
6. â An unhurried swim before lunch is the rhythm of dolce far niente in Ortigia.
7. â Sprezzatura Romana.
8. â Lâheure de flânerie: the deliberate pause in the middle of the day when Parisians stroll through sun-drenched corners.
9. â In Istanbul, the çay tepsisi (a traditional tea tray) serves as the vessel for carrying a warm, tangible hello.
10. â At Borough Market, farmers, fishmongers, and artisans bring centuries of care to each stall, connecting Londoners directly to the food they eat and its origins.
