This exhibition takes you on a multi-sensory journey through four case study collaborations between farmers and designers.
In this collaboration, ELWIN (
@elwinstudio ) designed a piece which tells the story of Chilton Grounds Farm (
@chiltongroundsfarm ), in Buckinghamshire - a 150-acre, third generation family farm run who have practiced agroecological farming for over 30 years.
With no fertiliser or pesticides used for decades, Chilton Grounds attract over 30 rare butterfly and over 80 bird species, providing a varied habitat with drier and wetter areas.
ELWIN is an independent slow fashion brand centering knitwear and seasonless pieces. Its founder Deanne Wallace, values the tactile qualities of materials, particularly those where you can āfeel the hand of the makerā. She was inspired by the soft handle and silky feel of Chilton Groundsā Wensleydale yarn.
Though less known than other ālustreā fibres, Wensleydale can feel comfortable worn close to the body ā contradicting the common perception of British wool as itchy and mostly suited for outerwear.
As a longwool breed, Wensleydales produce striking long curls. Deanne developed a design that combines the longest of these curls with a simple base garment, foregrounding the distinctive properties of the breed.
