The Epic Trips issue of @afarmedia is out now! Follow Ryan Knighton as he travels to Machu Picchu as a blind traveler. A huge focus on the story was the tactility of a space and how our sense can enhance our journeys, so I really wanted to bring that front and center. The photography showcases a blend of stunning scenes and micro moments, emphasising the small moments and obscuring the vistas.
To bring out some texture with the type, I ran the display copy through a manual process by printing it on handmade paper and made use of a typewriter that I generously received years ago from a dear design professor @design_is_play π¨π»βπ¨ swipe to see some process scrap and a close up of a type detail!

Happy Birthday New York! π½ This layout was a blast to work on. I knew I wanted to have hits of history throughout the design, so I mixed this beautiful serif (Cordier Script by @sharp_type ) with a font reminiscent of the font Gorton thatβs used everywhere, from typewriters to elevator signage to create that mix of high and low. I also created some art deco-inspired doodads throughout to add another layer to the design. π
