A gathering of songs from both sides of the atlantic forecasting great figures such as Eugene Delouche, Moune de Rivel and Dédé St Prix from Guadeloupe and Martinique, violinist Travadinha from Cape Verde, and Vincent Martin from the Bahamas. Episode III: 16.05 20:00H LUTCHINHA LEITE & FRIENDS 🌺 A central voice in the modern story of Cabo Verdean music, Lutchinha Leite arrives in Berlin for a rare and long-awaited reunion. Born Maria Neves Leite on the island of São Vicente, she has spent over four decades carrying the soul of her homeland across Europe, Africa, and the United States, while cultivating a vibrant cultural life within her community in Brockton, Massachussets. She is joined by pianist Igor Sassety, traveling directly from Cabo Verde, and by Félix Huet and Héléna Fontaine of the Berlin-based project @apandadosol , on guitar, cavaquinho, and vocals. The four musicians first met one night at the legendary @bombumininu in Mindelo, bonding right away in music and in friendship, and have tried ever since to reunite again. Rooted in morna, coladeira, and other traditional forms of music made famous to the rest of the world by the great Cesaria Evora, this quartet navigates between African rhythmic heritage and Lusophone melodic expression. Lutchinha’s voice embodies the saudade, warmth, and quiet resilience at the heart of Cabo Verdean identity. A unique evening on our Berlin stages, where this astonishingly beautiful musical genre is still very underrepresentated.
