The Sustainable Textile Counselor (STC) pilot course at EKA DiMa Lab explores the textile industry as a complex system — from global production structures to everyday consumption patterns ♻️ The programme focuses on understanding how textiles are made, how systems of production and consumption are organised, and what environmental and social impacts are embedded across the value chain. Key themes include: • Overview of the textile industry • Slow & fast fashion & consumption ⚠️ The course is conducted in Estonian #sustainabletextiles #circulardesign #textileindustry #EKA #dimalab slowfashion circulareconomy In this Erasmus+ project, Bildungs Lab (@bildungslab_learningcenter ) operates as the project coordinator, collaborating with Compass (@compass4you.at ), Integra, TAG-Green (@fabricrepublic_gr ) and Estonian Academy of Arts Sustainable Design and Material Lab DiMa (@eka_dima_lab ). Some partnerships take years to form. From Dhaka to Nairobi to New York, this is a 12-year story of two women reshaping the fashion industry — one designing waste out of production, the other building the systems to scale it. @reet_aus_phd proves that circular design isn’t theory — it’s already happening. The thread was always there. It just took time to weave. 🔗 Read more by @jeanineballone on @worldcollective.official via link in bio & in DiMa library #circularfashion #sustainabletextiles #designforchange #futureoffashion

Sustainable Production – From Theory to Practice 🛠 New regulations are pushing the textile industry to rethink not just what we produce — but how we produce it. From waterless dyeing and renewable energy to safe chemistry and material innovation, these practices are shaping the future of textiles. It’s no longer about intention — it’s about implementation. #sustainabletextiles #circulareconomy #textileinnovation #sustainablefashion #production

From vision to law. The textile industry is no longer just talking about change — it’s being shaped by it. As 2026 unfolds, EU regulations are turning sustainability into a legal framework, redefining how we design, produce and take responsibility. In our latest blog post, we break down what this means for your practice and business. 🔗 /blog/from-vision-to-law-how-2026-is-reshaping-the-textile-industry #sustainabletextiles #circulareconomy #fashionindustry #textiledesign #sustainability

We returned to Kenya this April 🇰🇪 After completing their training modules, the students entered the incubation phase — beginning the journey of developing their own sustainable fashion collections. The HUB is ready 🌟 This week focused on:  – defining target customers – exploring and analysing material sources – sharing initial ideas and inspiration individually and in small groups The week also included a visit from SEI Tallinn representatives and insightful discussions. Together, @eka_dima_lab and @kenyattauniversity , in collaboration with @africa.collect.textiles and SEI Tallinn, continue to support the next generation of circular designers 🌍 Supported by @estdevestonia – Estonian Centre for International Development, the initiative aims to map and repurpose textile production waste in Kenya while building long-term skills, opportunities, and circular design capacity locally. We’re looking forward to seeing the outcomes at the fashion show this November 👁👁 #CircularDesign #SustainableFashion #TextileWaste #DesignEducation #CircularEconomy

Where do our donated clothes really go? 👕 It’s rarely as simple as we think. Behind every donation bin sits a complex global system 🌍 — shaped by overproduction, logistics, and uneven reuse ♻️ What feels like a responsible act doesn’t always lead to a sustainable outcome. In our latest blog post, we look at the journey of donated clothes — and why donation alone cannot solve textile waste. If you care about the future of fashion, this is for you. The second week of the Nairobi Circular Design Hub training programme focused on machine sewing ♻️ @eka_dima_lab and @kenyattauniversity , together with @africa.collect.textiles and SEI Tallinn, continued the trainings with an intensive hands-on workshop 🌍 Students explored various machine stitching techniques, learned to draft bag patterns, designed and created their own bags using upcycled textile waste. Supported by @estdevestonia – Estonian Centre for International Development, the initiative aims to map and repurpose textile production waste in Kenya while building long-term skills, opportunities, and circular design capacity locally. #CircularDesign #SustainableFashion #TextileWaste #DesignEducation #CircularEconomy

As part of the Nairobi Circular Design Hub training programme, the first week focused on Circular Design ♻️ @eka_dima_lab and @kenyattauniversity , together with @africa.collect.textiles and SEI Tallinn, launched the project with an intensive hands-on workshop. 🌍 Students explored origami folding and hand stitching to create handbag prototypes without using a sewing machine — rethinking construction through minimal tools and maximum intention. Using donated denim trousers from @africa.collect.textiles , each student transformed a single pair into a bag, aiming to utilise as much material as possible. Some even succeeded in creating designs with zero textile waste. How can we optimise handbag design through origami — a technique that produces no offcuts — combined with hand stitching? Supported by @estdevestonia – Estonian Centre for International Development, the initiative aims to map and repurpose textile production waste in Kenya while building long-term skills, opportunities, and circular design capacity locally. #CircularDesign #SustainableFashion #TextileWaste #DesignEducation  #CircularEconomy

In February, DiMa traveled to Brazil with EKA Circular Design master’s students for internship in @confeccoes.tchristina garment manufacturer. One of the questions we explored was what happens do the textile leftovers from the factory 🔎 We learned that part of the leftovers is upcycled by @rani_ranifit . All that is not upcycled is downcycled by @momoambiental ♻️ The textile waste is transformed into frying pan handles, car parts, hangers, dog bowls, new fabrics, and much more — giving discarded textile materials a second life in unexpected forms.

What really drives our fashion choices? 👗 It’s rarely “just” about clothes. Behind every purchase sits psychology 🧠, function ⚙️, and ethics 🌱 — whether we realise it or not. In our latest blog post, we look at the three motivational dimensions shaping consumer behaviour — and why understanding them is essential if we want truly sustainable textiles ♻️ If you care about the future of fashion, this is for you. Happy NGO Day! 🌍 Civil society organisations play a crucial role in bringing ideas, people and solutions together. Through cooperation and shared commitment, NGOs contribute to building more responsible and sustainable societies. The Sustainable Textile Counsellor (STC) Project reflects this spirit of collaboration. By working across countries and sectors, the project promotes awareness of sustainable textiles and encourages more responsible production and consumption practices. As the STC consortium, we celebrate NGO Day and the dedication of organisations working every day for positive change.
