We’re all just trying #last #improv #of #the #year

BURN directed by @ajweissbard Four choreographers from 4 completely different dance universes that come together to co-create and interpret four characters based on the play ‘Burn This’ by Lanford Wilson. One maker/performer with the background of NDT, one from Pina, one from Peeping Tom and one from Merce Cunningham, all colliding in creating this dance-theater full evening with the dancers of Opera di Roma. Let me tell you that it was as wild of an experiment as it sounds..!! I kept asking myself ‘HOW are we going to do this’?! And in four weeks? But somehow… with the right dose of openness, curiosity, dialogue, confrontation, compromise and giggles, we found our way, together. From strangers, to collaborators. I was scared on so many levels to jump into this adventure. I had never looked at myself as a choreographer, and now I was signed up to make work alongside established makers. I was to create material and scenes for ballet dancers. I was to uncover the role of Anna, a tender woman who grieves, searches, loves and dares. I was to be the only woman in the room to do all of this. I’m so proud I said yes to this project no matter the fear, no matter my gut feeling saying ‘are you sure this is right?’, no matter how much outside my comfort zone I would be. I got to connect with truly unique artists, and that I’m most grateful for. They’ve taught me so much by being so different. Taking a dip in each of their inner worlds and marry poppins bags’ of knowledge was super inspiring. I left thinking differently about the craft of dance and theater. Thank you @eleonoraabbagnatoofficial for seeing something in me. Thank you @ajweissbard for trusting me as Anna. Thank you @brandonlagaert for being the most playful partner. Thank you @damiano.bigi for holding the ship together with calm. Thank you @jonah_bokaer for your hearts and enthusiasm. Thank you dancers for your commitment to my work. Hopefully more to come! 🔥

I’m happy to announce this wonderful collaboration between the @i_vespri_____ collective, with my choreographic signature, and two magnificent dancers: @sandrasalietti , already an integral part of the team, and the outstanding @eggmagoo , who has joined us for the creation of Ballroom. This ten-minute duet is rooted in a strong poetic vision and unfolds around the idea of the waltz: its apparent ease, made possible only when you have a partner who truly supports you. We have the honor and privilege of presenting this new creation in July at the Festival @leshivernalescdcn in Brussels, thanks to @_mariedupont invitation, and later at the @dap_festival , thanks to the invitation of @adriaferrali We can’t wait to bring it to the stage. A big inspiration for this section was hearing Maldigo Sin Voz - Hijo del Salitre, while hiking the mountains of the Scottish highlands. It felt like the song was trying to bring back some old memory, one that the mountain still knew but I somehow had forgotten. Memories from other generations, from other creatures…the wise ones. This is a little snippet from my last improv play in the studio before I took a break to travel for a few weeks. I’ve lived and seen so much chaotic beauty ever since that I even managed to forget I ever was a dancer. Needed a little reminder since I’m starting work tomorrow in the studio at Bayerische Staatoper..! What a luxury we have to be able to live of our passion and fun&games.

A year ago I took part in a tv competition in Quebec called Revolution and I lasted a big total of two episodes aha First round I choreographed a solo that reversed itself entirely half way through. Second round I choose to do an improvisation because it was really important to me to remind all types of audiences that dancers are not just there to do tricks. They are artists! Capable of creating worlds in an instant, crafting in the present moment for all eyes to wonder. I asked one judge to choose a theme (last minute if my life), another to choose an emotion (worry) and the final one to choose a song( La chambre jaune by Klo Pegeg). I performed and improv with these three parameters right then and there, with no mental preparation time. I had so much fun living this moment on stage, but I was put in ‘danger’. That same evening I then had to ‘dance for my life’ to fight for my chance to stay. I did a cute cyber woman moment with this hot unitard made for surfers. I gave some sass, a little too much energy and really all that I had left to give after flying in from Europe the night before. I was eliminated following these two numbers 🥂 I said goodbye to the tv fantasy and went back to my normal (not so normal) life as a contemporary dancer. I kept with me the cutest footage from grand-mother, and thats the best gift I could have received from this experience.
