I dream of the day we can move the boiler and get rid of the annoying gas pipe passing through the living room. But until that day…

One of the more huh? things I’ve recently removed from our house. 13A plug on installation cable, routed through the cellar, past the consumer unit, and up to another socket by the door

Very proud to have worked with theatre lighting designers Ed Elbourne @eepee_elbourne and Sam Porter-Frakes, supporting ‘Paper Clouds’ on behalf of @arupgroup , to transform the Washi paper clouds and paper dress by @ut_iaep and project leader @artitec - as worn by violinist-composer @midori_komachi - for the Japan Pavilion curated by @clarefarrowstudio for @londondesignbiennale . As Ed Elbourne writes: “Our lighting design explores the interaction of light with the dimensions of washi material at different scales. We were fascinated by the beautiful washi that Kuma Lab pioneered for this project, and our prototyping process discovered a remarkable contrast in the visual perception of the material at different scales and under different lighting conditions. At large scale and under general illumination, the material appears light with a gentle rolling texture, like whispy light clouds. At a much more detailed scale the washi paper reveals a tempest of fibres, more like stormy clouds. We found that backlighting the material was particularly interesting, highlighting the complex 3D tangles of fibres and inviting the spectator to take a closer look. The dress is internally illuminated by a slow modulating colour temperature, reminiscent of the sun moving behind clouds. At the larger scale, the natural daylight in the Nelson Stair is augmented with additional top light, revealing a fluffy texture in the washi paper. The backlight reflects internally through the material, producing a silver lining. the lighting also brushes the golden kimono thread, making the complex web of structure glisten.“ #ldbpaperclouds #londondesignbiennale #washi #lighting #theatrelighting #lightingdesign #handmadepaper #paper #texture #exhibition

A first glimpse of our Sound Sponsor @mineral.sound in these first images of the stone speakers and Japanese Washi paper clouds designed by @ut_iaep in the stunning vertical space of The Nelson Stair in @somersethouse for @londondesignbiennale (5-29 June). Project curated by @clarefarrowstudio . Connecting earth and sky, we are presenting 4 of these newly launched and exquisitely crafted bespoke stone speakers by Alexandre Bertrand, founder of Mineral Sound – the 2 largest made from Swaledale Fossil, more than 350 million years old, and quarried in Yorkshire, in the UK. Named ‘Hex 110’ the minimalist speaker form is inspired by the hexagonal shape of Jupiter’s North Pole! Rich in fossils, the gleaming, fascinating surface has copper-toned functional details, and we are about to hear their astonishing, warm, resonating sound for the first time in this 18th-century Stair. The music of @midori_komachi will soon be filling the space – more images and more speaker designs by Mineral Sound to follow! The Japan Pavilion is also sponsored by @official_mikimoto (Japanese pearls) and supported using public funding by @aceagrams . Music Partner @londonmusicfund Lighting by @eepee_elbourne and Sam Porter-Frakes on behalf of @arupgroup , @awagami_factory and also supported by: The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, POLA Art Foundation, JSPS Kakenhi Grant and Hinrichsen Foundation 🙏 #washipaper #ldbpaperclouds #handmadepaper #japan #japanese #japanesedesigner #clouds #speakers #sound #acoustics #interiordesign #architecture #stone #material #ldb25 #londondesignbiennale #innovation
