We’re excited to host @edanexists for a brand new show on ROVR, spinning some of his favourite bits from all eras and universes!
EDAN is a critically acclaimed dee-jay, emcee, producer and song-writer with a global following ~ known for his unlikely take on hip-hop culture, where traditional rap songs are often skewed by 60’s rock samples, tape echoes, and foreign language choruses (not to mention the off-beat humor and surrealist imagery incorporated via his lyrics).
Since his debut rapp single saw the light of day in 1999 ~ followed by beloved & critically acclaimed albums such as 2005’s ‘Beauty & The Beat’ (NME named it as one of the top 500 albums of all time), and collaborative projects on the Stones Throw label (2018’s ‘Humble Pi’ with Homeboy Sandman) ~ he’s steadily amassed a loyal cult following. His live shows (where he often dj’s and raps simultaneously) have been highly regarded the world over...

had this crazy dream to get some of my favorite djs and musicians in a room together to make a live communal mixtape and see what happens…

the prompt was was “songs you can live inside”... i was inspired by snail shells and how they reminded me of the spiral nature of a record. it got me thinking about how certain songs feel like a house you can slip inside, a house that feels warm, familiar, built just for you. the static of the outside world melts away; you feel comforted, transformed, resurrected, like touching a quiet compass that re-orients you back to your true self.

everyone brought records to share and around we went in a fun nonlinear fashion, droppin needles and hittin record on the tapedeck, each song more unpredictable than the next… the result is a frozen musical conversation between friends, a zig zag journey and holy team effort to briefly and clumsily touch utopia. hope it brings as much joy to listen as it brought us to make it.
