I’ve never been someone to share too much personal stuff on this platform. I usually use it to show my work and celebrate life, but today I want to share something deeply painful. This past Tuesday, I lost the first love I ever had. I lost my mother. This is incredibly hard to write. Everything I am—as a person and as a professional—is because of my mother. She is and will always be everything to me. I am completely broken and shattered, and I know this is a pain I will carry forever. I’m grateful to have my wife and family holding me together during this time. I will continue to fight for my dreams, just as my mother always taught us to do. Behind she leave an amazing husband. Four kids and 10 grandchildren that love her very much I will share information about the ceremony in a few days. If you were lucky enough to meet her, please think of her and celebrate her life, because that is exactly how she would want to be remembered.

Social media buzz can jump start a restaurant, but it’s the regulars that give it staying power. Ed Tinoco and Alexis Belton Tinoco of Danny’s NYC know this well. More on IntheWeeds.news

With his family from Oaxaca in southern Mexico, and having grown up in Long Island City, the remarkable chef Ed Tinoco led the design and execution of Wednesday’s culinary showcase – a wonderful celebration of our new partnership with the The James Beard Foundation. Thank you to our friends and partners at Diageo for bringing us together. Much more to come together!

You were one of a few that checked up on me. We were suppose to chat this week about working together. You were the reason why I felt welcome coming home from Chicago. You were doing the things that everyone wanted to do but it’s too scare to take risk and too scare to work this hard. You were one of the chefs that I truly looked up to and inspired me. You were one of us, a true New Yorker. Your support always gave me confidence and made me feel that I can be one of the greats too. Thank you for everything you did for us.
