Hi everyone. Thought I'd do a quick post to introduce myself. My name is Will Rodgers. I am a sound artist and acoustic ecologist originally based in the Granite Belt of South-East Queensland, but currently living and creating in Cumbria, UK. My work is currently focussed on producing curated soundscapes that reflect the rich tapestry of Country. My compositions aim to be immersive experiences that invite listeners to engage deeply with the landscape around them through sound.
As part of the artist collective Hopeful Disruptions, I collaborate with fellow core creatives Debbie Taylor, Tracy Pateman, and Rochelle Summerfield to explore innovative ways of engaging with the world around us through sound. This collective ethos enriches my work, fostering a spirit of experimentation and community involvement. With a focus on biodiversity, sustainability and environmental awareness, my soundscapes aim to raise consciousness about the beauty and fragility of the natural world.
My interest in acoustic ecology allows me to blend artistic response with scientific inquiry, affording a unique perspective on how sound interacts with the environment and the pivotal role humans must play in protecting the biodiversity of our natural environment. I aim to encourage people to pause, listen, and appreciate the intricate sounds that define our landscapes - and then think about what they can do to preserve them.

A couple of pictures from our community!
@ecosoundscape who we’ve worked alongside in the past, is constantly exploring the Cumbrian landscape, immersing himself in nature and capturing the incredible natural soundscapes our local areas have to offer.
Here are just a few of the amazing scenes he encounters on his daily ventures across Cumbria.

An amazing morning macro photographing the snow and ice that descended on the Lake District overnight. Such beautiful formations of abstract wonder.

🌳 🎧🔊 Over the past 9 months, 35 trees and 2 forests have been indexed on arboreus.earth thanks to 17 field recordists from across the globe 🌏 🙌🏼
11 new listings are now live, from the US and Australia, including the Domestic Apple, Texas Live Oak, and several eucalypts and coastal species from eastern Australia with thanks to @anneyoncha@colettemedia and @ecosoundscape
From Venezuela to Kenya, Australia to Canada, the US to England and Europe — Germany, France and Poland, this virtual, global forest is growing. There’s room for more and while you can submit at any time, there are submission round dates and a fresh 2026 submission form now on the website. How many other countries, forests and species can we include this year? The next round closes 23 March so we can get a new grove of trees online for arboreus.earth’s first birthday on World Earth Day, 22 April.

The National Trust’s Attingham Park in Shropshire is planning to host a ‘Nature and Water Festival’ in June 2026. We hope to engage visitors with our nature recovery work through a variety of workshops, and we seek a sound ecologist or similar who might be able to provide soundscape workshops for community groups in the lead up to the event, and public engagement activities over the main weekend. If this is something that sounds exciting to you, please contact [email protected] for further details.

Amazing three days in Glasgow attending these events hosted by the wonderful @listengallery presented by @mathias.arr.tk@actionpyramid and @meliarog . I learned how to make a hydrophone (my soldering skills need a serious upskilling!), immersed myself in three astonishing soundscapes, and participated in an extremely thought provoking public symposium on field recording and the sound arts. My practice has been fortified and I came away with a million ideas for current and future work. Many thanks to Riah, Mathias, Tom and Mélia ♥️ Artwork by Coline L'Achiver

Amazing installation in the Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern by @maretannesara - a Sámi artist. Brilliant sounds of reindeer, the Sámi landscape and 'joik' vocals that "uses voice to evoke the essence of a person, animal or place". The wooden structure represents the internal structure of a reindeer nose. The bark was extremely fragrant and was an impressive immersive experience.

Mesmerising water action near the waterfall cascades at the top of Swindale Beck. Droplets enter the stream off the edge of a moss covered rootlet. Listen to the force of that water flow in the background! Well done @wildhaweswater and @connectfornature for caring for this precious waterway.

Nature gives us the space to come together and grow as a community.
A couple of weeks ago, our River Rhythms course brought us together to explore the hidden sounds of the river landscape.
Through guided activities and discussions surrounding nature, our group created soundtracks that captured the beauty and the stillness of the nature that surrounds us.
It was an opportunity not only to learn about the natural world but also to build friendships and a sense of shared purpose.
River Rhythms showed us how time in nature can bring people closer together, reminding us that community and environment are deeply connected.
