EchoLocate
3rd - 7th February 2025
GSA, Glasgow
EchoLocate is a collaborative art project exploring themes of connection, tactility, and shared experience through the act of correspondence. Over a series of weeks, 20 students from Glasgow and 20 students from Cambridge anonymously exchanged handwritten letters, reflecting on topics such as class differences, upbringing, and personal similarities. These letters, unfiltered and deeply personal, became the foundation for a creative dialogue across distance. The project culminates in exhibitions in Cambridge and Glasgow, showcasing the letters alongside book works, visual artworks, and performative pieces. By focusing on the intimacy of handwriting and the act of exchange, EchoLocate invites audiences to consider the enduring power of human connection in an increasingly digital world.
Creative responses were made in regards to the letters and the Glasgow show featured a plethora of engaging performances, happenings, and workshops!
Thank you and congratulations to the 40 pen pals that stayed in correspondence, the artist who made creative responses, the performances, dancers, fashion designers, and poets, who have explored the themes of dialogue, connection, interpretation, and expression.
Throughout the week of the exhibition we had
@okayitsmonday run a workshop on language and
@markosnail run a workshop on narratives, a midweek critique giving artists feedback on their creations, and finishing off the show with a popup zine fair run by
@ellis.bairstow in conjunction with
@setthezine !
It’s been a pleasure collaborating with
@kimurayolk and big thanks to GSA and Queens, Cambridge for allowing us to experiment with our ideas, and special thanks to
